What to Wear to Fashion Week: Your Ultimate Style Guide

Fashion week is the perfect opportunity to show off your personal style and catch a glimpse of the latest fashion trends. But with so many events and runway shows, it can be overwhelming to decide what to wear. That’s why I have created this ultimate guide to help you stand out and look your best at Fashion Week.

  1. Mix Prints: Gone are the days when matching prints were a fashion faux pas. Mixing prints is one of the hottest fashion trends, and Fashion Week is the perfect time to experiment with this bold style choice. Try pairing a printed top with a patterned skirt or pants. Just make sure the prints have a similar color scheme to avoid a clash of patterns.
  2. Layer like a Pro: Layering and draping are great ways to add depth and versatility to your outfit. Layer a jacket over a dress or drape a sweater over a blouse for a chic, effortless look. These styles are also perfect for adjusting your outfit to different temperatures throughout the day.
  3. Be Bold: Bright colors are a great way to make a statement and stand out in the crowd. Don’t be afraid to wear stand-out shades, like red, yellow, or green. If you’re not ready to commit to a full outfit, try adding a pop of color with your accessories. For example by wearing an all-grey outfit and adding a pop of color with bright-colored shoes.
  4. Prioritize Comfort: Fashion Week events involve a lot of walking and standing, so it’s important to prioritize comfort. Opt for comfortable shoes, like comfortable loafers or cowboy boots, instead of super high heels that can cause discomfort after a few hours. Alternatively, carry your heels in your handbag and wear a pair of flats, so you can swap them when you arrive at the event.
  5. Opt for Statement Accessories: Elevate your outfit and add a personal touch. Consider adding statement jewelry, a dramatic pair of earrings, a chic clutch, or a trendy hat to your outfit. Just be careful not to overdo it, as too many accessories can detract from your overall look.
  6. Play with Proportions and textures: This a great way to create an interesting and unique look. Pair a voluminous skirt with a fitted top or a cropped jacket with high-waisted pants. The key is to balance the proportions to create a cohesive outfit. Mixing and matching different textiles and textures can add depth and dimension to your outfit. Consider pairing a cozy sweater with a leather skirt, or a silk blouse with a denim jacket. These unexpected combinations will make your outfit stand out in a sea of fashionistas.
  7. Coordinate with a Friend: Twinning with friend is a great way to create a cohesive and stylish look. Match your outfits with complementary colors or patterns to create a stylish duo. Why stop at coordinating with one friend when you can coordinate with all of them? Coordinate your outfits with your entire group to create a stylish and cohesive look.
  8. Wear a Co-Ord Power Suit: A power suit is a great way to ensure that you look polished and put together. If you’re feeling stuck and don’t know what to wear, remember that a go-to matching set is always a safe bet. Whether it’s a chic skirt and blazer, or a stylish two-piece suit, these outfits require minimal effort but still look stylish and put together. What is more, if you make your outfit monochrome, that is a great way to create a cohesive and stylish look. Try matching your shoes to your bag or your jewelry to your outfit. Just make sure to keep the color scheme simple and cohesive.
  9. Find Your Statement Piece: Finally, consider finding your own sartorial uniform and sticking with it. This could be a signature style or a go-to outfit formula that works for you. It could be as simple as always wearing a blazer or incorporating a certain color into every outfit. Whatever it is, finding your sartorial uniform can simplify your outfit choices and make getting dressed for Fashion Week a breeze.

As a Swiss fashion blogger and illustrator, I know firsthand the excitement that comes with Fashion Week. Fashion Week can be overwhelming, and sometimes less is more. If you’re feeling unsure about your outfit, scale back and stick to a simple, classic look with a twist. A little black dress or a tailored suit will never go out of style, add a bold red lip and you should be all good.

FAQs

  • What is the best shoe style to wear to Fashion Week? Opt for stylish sneakers or loafers, or cowboy boots instead of high heels that can cause discomfort after a few hours.
  • What should I consider when choosing an outfit for Fashion Week? Consider the event dress code, the venue, and your personal style. Always pay close attention to the invitation, as it usually reflects the theme of the event too.
  • Can I mix and match bold pieces for my Fashion Week outfit? Yes, fashion is about taking risks, and having fun. So be bold, and try out those trends you have been wanting to test out.

In conclusion, Fashion Week is the ultimate opportunity to showcase your style and make a statement. By researching the event dress code, considering the venue, and prioritizing comfort, you can ensure that you look and feel your best. Experimenting with bold colors, prints, and textures, layering for versatility, and accessorizing to elevate your look are great ways to stand out in the crowd. And don’t forget to have fun and enjoy the experience – after all, fashion month only comes around twice a year!

Front Row at London Fashion Week: Bringing Fashion to Life – Behind the Scenes of Live Illustration at London Fashion Week with Anna Blachut

Capturing the Essence of Design through Fashion Illustration at London Fashion Week

London Fashion Week is one of the most anticipated events in the fashion calendar, bringing together designers, models, fashion editors, bloggers, and fashion enthusiasts from all over the world. This year, I had the privilege of attending the event as an illustrator, and it was an experience of a lifetime. From drawing backstage to live illustrations at the show, it was an exciting time to be in London. In this blog post, I will share my experience, tips, and insights from the event.

Drawing front row at London Fashion Week is every fashion illustrator’s dream, and I am beyond grateful to have had the opportunity to live this experience. As a Swiss illustrator, I was thrilled to be part of the FIDA x Fashion Scout partnership for London Fashion Week, where I had the chance to capture the essence of the event through my live drawings and sketches.

From Sketch to Runway: A Glimpse into the World of Fashion Illustration with The Future Collective X Fashion Scout

My journey began with the Future Collective X Fashion Scout show. I arrived 1 hour before the show and headed backstage with a big bag filled with pens, pencils, and sketchbooks. This was such a great opportunity to draw backstage and live during the fashion show. Backstage at any fashion show is always hectic, so I made sure to stay out of the way. I perched in a corner and started drawing the models getting into hair and makeup backstage. It was a truly exhilarating experience, seeing the models getting ready for the show, and capturing their energy and excitement in my sketches.

As an illustrator, one of the most important aspects of attending London Fashion Week is to observe and capture the details. This means paying attention to the fabrics, colours, and textures of the clothing, as well as the accessories and styling. These details are what make fashion unique and can be a great source of inspiration for your illustrations.

FIGURA SERVICES: The Dark Alluring Psyche of Uniform Expression

Then I settled into a seat and set up to draw live during the fashion show. It was a first for me, and I absolutely loved it. The show was a curation of three emerging designers who were set to debut at London Fashion Week with Fashion Scout at the Future Collective show. The first designer was FIGURA SERVICES, founded in 2021 by a talented design duo who strive to create uniforms of expression that perceive the dark, alluring psyche of those that wear them. Their unique approach to design was evident in their collection, which was edgy and bold, yet still had a touch of elegance and sophistication. The first designer was FIGURA SERVICES, founded in 2021 by a talented design duo. Their collection strives to create uniforms of expression that perceive the dark alluring psyche of those that wear them.

Felix Bendish: Unique Garments and Accessories with a Bold Twist of Hand Embroidery

The second designer was Felix Bendish, a Mumbai-based brand that crafts unique garments and accessories with a bold twist of hand embroidering manipulated onto fabric through digital printing. Felix Bendish draws inspiration from their fascination with illusions, projecting these into their designs, and enhancing their innovative approach to craftsmanship.

Gyouree Kim: Exploring Sustainable Fashion Methodologies with Historical and Modern Design

The third designer was Gyouree Kim, a Korean-born fashion designer who has over five years of technical garment-making experience under her belt, which she further developed by exploring sustainable fashion methodologies to begin building her brand. Inspired by an amalgamation of historical fashion and modern design, along with the intricacies of architecture, Gyouree Kim has built a design-oriented brand valuing structure, quality, and values. The corsets were beautiful and intricate, the fabrics light and breathable. A truly beautiful and poetic collection.

Ingrid Kraftchenko’s ‘Bodymap 23’ (The Sun is Ash): A Dark and Creative Twist on Ecotourism at London Fashion Week

In the evening we headed to Ingrid Kraftchenko’s ‘Bodymap 23’ (The Sun is Ash) fashion show. The designer presented a unique and avant-garde collection at the official London Fashion Week Schedule. The evening show was held in an abandoned tunnel of the London Underground, which added to the dark and edgy vibe of the collection. The Fashion Week guests all gathered around the gate, clamouring to be let it, during this time I spoke with some truly fascinating people, including a designer who worked with Vivienne Westwood for several years. Then when the gates opened, we all trotted down into the dark rubble and got seated in this surreal setting.

The collection featured a fusion of leather, latex, sheer fabrics, and intricate textiles that were artistically crafted with crochet techniques. The catwalk was a tribute to the dystopian and utilitarian themes of the collection, with models donning red and black ensembles that added to the dramatic feel of the show. Ingrid Kraftchenko’s designs are highly political and aim to redefine modern luxury, which has earned her critical acclaim and a cult following. The show was a dark and ritualistic catwalk. It came to a close with the beautiful model Nyekachi Douglas striding down the catwalk in a white and black striped top and billowing black skirt. Fun fact, we were sitting next to her brother in the show, so it was really nice in terms of atmosphere to talk with him and see how proud he was. The designer, Ingrid Kraftchenko is a British fashion designer born in Kent, England who graduated from the London College of Fashion. She lives and works in London and this was her catwalk debut. After the show, we sprinted out of the underground and up to the surface to grab a (very) late dinner before sliding into bed so as to be fresh for the next show in the morning.

MADbyMAD’s Pink Matrix Collection: Fully Sustainable Luxury Pieces That Are Degradable and Easily Recyclable

The last show I attended was the morning show at Fashion Scout, where I went backstage to draw, and drew live illustrations and sketched the audience at the show. I had the opportunity to speak with the designer, the press, the models, and the fashion editors, which gave me a broader understanding of the fashion industry and the effort it takes to put together such an event.

One designer that really caught my attention was Mata, who focuses on sustainable luxury fashion at her bio-luxury brand MADbyMAD. Mata is currently based in Paris, where she works as a textile designer as part of the textile design research team at Chanel Maison. Mata Durikovic is an LVHM Green Trail Award nominee and a winner of multiple awards including the Media Award by ITS: Platform Contest in 2022, Best Fashion Graduate by Slovak Fashion Council and Fashion Live! in 2022 for a sustainability price from the Copenhagen Fashion Summit in 2019.

Her motto, “be MAD! be Bioluxury!”, transforms into her work, using bioplastic as a leather replacement bioplastic crystal leather with 3D embroidery in combination with recycled Swarovski crystal waste and using zero-waste techniques such as knitwear and crochet.

In her collection, ‘Pink Matrix’, she aims for fully sustainable luxury pieces made to be degradable into separate materials and easily recyclable. The inspiration comes from her childhood memories and relationship with her grandmother, who used various sustainable practices at home. One of them was saving the starch water from potatoes and later watering the plants with it for better nutrition. This starch material is the basis for the bioplastic material that she started to experiment with and that became the basis for the collection.

During the show of Pink Matrix, there was a unique and interactive moment that caught everyone’s attention. One of the models lay on a table while the other models took a knife and cut off pieces of the dress. The models then placed the pieces on a cake platter and offered them to the audience. The audience members were surprised and intrigued by this unconventional act, as it showed that the pieces of the dress were actually edible. This was a clear demonstration of Mata’s commitment to sustainability and her willingness to experiment with innovative materials and techniques in order to create sustainable luxury fashion. It was a bold move that left a lasting impression on everyone who witnessed it.

Final Thoughts on London Fashion Week

In conclusion, one of the best parts of attending London Fashion Week as an illustrator is the opportunity to network and collaborate with other professionals in the industry. This can be as simple as striking up a conversation with a fellow illustrator or fashion blogger, or as involved as creating a collaborative project with a designer or model. The fashion industry is all about connections, and attending events like this can be a great way to make new contacts and expand your professional circle. In terms of the actual experience of attending London Fashion Week, I have found it to be a thrilling and inspiring event. The energy of the space is contagious, and there is always something new and exciting to see.

All in all, this was one of my most memorable experiences. It allowed me to see the entire process of putting on a runway show from start to finish. Furthermore, as an illustrator, I have found that one of the most rewarding aspects of attending London Fashion Week is being able to share my work with others. This might mean posting images of my illustrations on social media or creating a portfolio to showcase my work after the event. From the elaborate runway shows to the behind-the-scenes glimpses of the fashion industry, there is truly something for everyone at this event.

The ultimate Greek Island Travel Guide by A Stylish Story

The Best Greek Islands for Vacation

The Greek Islands are a real hot spot for world-class hotel resorts and luxury boutique hideaways. With travel bans lifted in Europe, Greece has come out on top as one of the best places to summer in.

I personally love Greece and have been consistently revisiting this country since my childhood. When I was 8, we rented a villa in Crete for 3 months and explored several Greek islands. Visiting Santorini, Mykonos, Ios, and many other islands. That trip was one of my favorites as a child. Even back then, I was a budding artist so inspired by the colors of the stunning sunsets we watched every evening that I would take my Caran d’Ache crayons and a blank page every night to recreate the skies mesmerizing shades of flaming red and orange turning to dark blue.

What’s more, when I was a teenager I spent several summers in Antiparos which is a tiny, yet charming Greek Island opposite Paros.

This year I went back to one of my favorite Greek islands, Mykonos, and also visited a new one that I had never been to before: Rhodes.

About Rhodes

This Greek island is steeped in history, although there is a touch of luxury and glamour on the islands (we saw several mega yachts dotted along the coastline and a private jet landing as we headed to the airport). It is also so close to Turkey that many travelers hop on a boat after flying into Rhodes and head to hotspot destinations such as the Turkish Island, Bodrum for example.

Rhodes is known for its medieval architecture, wineries, and beaches. It was a key island in the ancient world and once was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Colossus of Rhodes. A huge bronze statue of the Greek sun god Helios that took 12 years to build. Rhodes was then one of the most important trading ports in the ancient Mediterranean and the statue stood at the entrance of their key port. There are also several historical elements worth visiting for history buffs including stunning Byzantine churches, hilltop castles, and faded frescos as well as many Roman ruins.

About Our Stay in Rhodes at the Lindian Village 5-Star Hotel Resort in Lindos, Rhodes

As the hotel we were staying at was located near Lindos, we opted to hire a car. This also allowed us to do excursions around the island during the day as well. There are options for private transfers as well as taxis on the island.

What was great about the Lindian Village 5-Star Hotel Resort is that it had a wide range of room categories – many of which are suites that have their own private pools. This said there was also two main pools for all guests and of course access to the sea too as the hotel sits on the coastline and has a private hotel beach. There is a multitude of activities available as well and the facilities include a full-sized tennis court, pool bar area with snacks and drinks available, and games areas with a pool table, ping-pong, and arcade games.

My favorite aspects of this 5-Star hotel were:

  • The architecture of the hotel, especially the layout of the hotel pool area, which was truly unique
  • The soothing surroundings with the crickets of the winding pebbled pathways
  • The beautiful water features and floral decorations that were dotted around the hotel, each corner was unique
  • The hotel’s cafe square area which had a lovely seating area
  • The incredibly delicious Greek food at their rooftop restaurant
  • The spacious rooms with private pools
  • The beachfront

There are many things to do in Santorini including swimming, snorkeling, scuba diving, hiking, and even windsurfing. Mykonos: the best for luxury lovers with a penchant for party life
Mykonos is a Greek island in the Aegean sea. It’s known for its beautiful beaches and vibrant nightlife.

Milos: a picturesque oasis

Naxos: the best island for sandy beaches and a relaxing getaway

Ios: an excellent coming-of-age island to party and enjoy the balmy summer evenings

Paros: the perfect destination for those who are looking for a new hotspot that is more relaxed than Mykonos

Antiparos: A tiny, almost secret island tucked away with many charming aspects, my favorite being their open-air cinema

Crete: is a wonderful island for archeology and adventures
Crete is the largest of the Greek Islands and is considered to have the best beaches. It’s known for its natural beauty and clear waters. There are many places to visit in Crete, including Lasithi Plateau, Rethymnon Old Town, Heraklion Old Town, Chania old port, Agia Triada Monastery, Knossos Palace, and much more.

Dodecanese islands

Rhodes: the best for those who are fans of the ancient world and for real culture bugs who love history

This summer, I was invited to one of the most luxurious hotels in Switzerland, the legendary Chedi Hotel in Andermatt. Along with Bella, we enjoyed a summer Swiss alpine experience at their stunning resort.

About Andermatt & The Chedi Andermatt Hotel

The Chedi Andermatt was designed by the minimalist architect: Jean-Michel Gathy. This luxury five-star hotel is part of the elite GHM group of hotels and is one of the most carefully curated hospitality experiences I have had. Indeed, the Swiss Alps is certainly an unexpected destination for the summer one might say – given that it is such a hot spot in the winter months. However, with the heatwave that ran through all of Europe this summer, it was the perfect place to get away from the city swelter and reconnect with nature. What is more, did you know that the enchanting winter wonderland of Andermatt has been the chosen destination for the bourgeoisie since the early 19th century? Today it is most known for The Chedi Andermatt Hotel. This luxurious hotel draws in a flurry of international visitors regardless of the season. Every year Andermatt shrugs off its snowy white coat and the sun streams down the picturesque village. In the summer months, the Chedi Andermatt becomes a playground for exotic car tours, and hiking enthusiasts with a penchant for delicious dining experiences as well as being the ideal place for a luxury wellness retreat.

The hospitality of the Chedi Andermatt revolves around the following statement: Asian Simplicity in the Alps. The Chedi is in fact an alternative term for a Buddhist stupa, mainly used in Thailand. The name underlines the Asian influence that is omnipresent throughout the hotel. With the dark paneled wood, excellent Japanese restaurant, and Asian-inspired decor.

Surrounded by the natural beauty of the Urseren Valley, situated in the Swiss Alps, dark panels of wood soar up to the sky and form a huge complex known as the Chedi Andermatt. It is a captivating five-star escape in the breathtaking Swiss Alps. The hotel’s Egyptian owner, Samih Sawiris, has created world-class accommodations, services, and amenities for his hotel guests. This architectural gem and prestigious hotel are one of the most ideal destinations in Switzerland for travelers who want to recharge their batteries.

The Chedi Andermatt opened in December 2013 and is part of the General Hotel Management Group (GHM). It is the group’s first resort in Europe and is situated in the Urseren Valley in the heart of the Swiss Alps.

This was a truly magical experience in terms of wellness and gastronomy. I highly recommend the Chedi Andermatt as a hotel to stay in if you are looking for a little rest and relaxation, and are in search of an exceptional level of Swiss luxury hospitality. As the Chedi Andermatt is a proud member of General Hotel Management, Leading Hotels of the World, and Swiss Deluxe Hotels.

About the Hotel Rooms at the Chedi Andermatt

The room we got was beautifully decorated, very spacious, and had a large balcony overlooking the outdoor pool, set against a beautiful backdrop of the Swiss mountains. I loved the huge bathroom which was fully equipped with my favorite Acqua di parma beauty lotions and potions. I really liked the rain shower and deep soaking bathtub. Indeed, each of the hotel rooms comes with a balcony, a Bose surround sound system, and a flat-screen TV with on-demand movies (we watched Crazy Rich Asians to keep in theme with the hotel).

There are serval types of Room Categories available at the Chedi Andermatt, including:

  • Deluxe Room
  • Grand Deluxe Room
  • Junior Deluxe Suite
  • Deluxe Suite
  • Grand Deluxe Suite
  • Gemsstock Suite
  • Furka Suite
  • Gotthard Suite (which is the most prestigious category at The Chedi Andermatt. It stretches across 330 square meters and includes its own Private Spa with a Steam bath, Jacuzzi, and Sauna as well as a private wine cabinet)

The whole room that we stayed in at the Chedi Andermatt Hotel was “connected” and you could program the lighting, the fireplace, room temperature, etc all from a single iPad. What’s more, a little welcome package was waiting in the room along with a handwritten note (which always makes it so much more special). The gifts were carefully placed on the low table which was decorated with super soft floor pillows – adding an Asian aesthetic to the dark wooden chalet. This was one of my favorite spots in the room. I also loved the walk-in wardrobe which I immediately filled with my chalet chic attire. We freshened up after unpacking and headed down to the hotel lobby for the Chedi Afternoon Tea experience.

The Chedi Afternoon Tea at the Chedi Andermatt

We had the traditional Afternoon Tea on the ground floor of the Chedi Hotel. It was such a cozy setting, despite the size of the hotel. We selected a soft plush daybed and settled into the ambient space to enjoy the Chedi’s signature afternoon tea. It arrived on a beautiful silver 3-tier cake stand which was laden with stacks of sandwiches, delicious pastries, as well as an array of local delicacies. Depending on the guest’s preferences, the hotel’s afternoon tea can also be swapped for champagne as the bar is stocked with a range of Taittinger champagnes to choose from. I enjoyed a glass of Champagne Taittinger Rosé as well as a fragrant pot of tea from Dammann Frères. If Afternoon Tea is not your scene, there is also a cigar room for gentlemen to enjoy. It is also an ideal location if one is looking for a more private area to conduct their business exchanges, for example. Indeed, The Cigar Library at the Chedi Andermatt Hotel holds the world’s largest variety of cigars in the hotel industry (with over 800 different types of cigars from sixteen countries).

About the Chedi Andermatt Luxury Spa, Hydrotherapy & Pools

Our next stop in the hotel was The Spa and Health Club. I must say, this was one of my favorite aspects of the Chedi Hotel. It is based on a holistic concept and is spread over two floors. There is a beautiful 34-meter interior pool which I did serval laps of before dipping into the heated outdoor pool. I loved the 12-meter outdoor pool as I could gently relax whilst listening to the twittering of birds that swirled around the stunning alpine valley, punctuated by helicopters flying overhead. It was pure bliss and really allowed me to feel replenished and renewed.

The Spa is also equipped with a Tibetan Relaxation Lounge that offers an assortment of Far Eastern treatments customized to suit your personal needs. The Chedi Andermatt also has its own private Health Club filled with the latest TechnoGym equipment. Personal trainers are also available for individual coaching. They also offer both private and group classes including yoga and Pilates.

The Chedi Cocktail Bar & Tasting Experience

In the evening I slipped into a long slinky dress and a pair of heels before heading down to the Chedi cocktail bar. This bar actually won the Best Hotel Bar at the SWISS BAR AWARDS 2021. With around 500 different spirit items, including limited liquid editions, regional gins, and fruit brandies from renowned Swiss distilleries, you are sure to find the perfect beverage adapted to your palette. What is more, they offer both signature drinks and non-alcoholic drinks, and this includes non-alcoholic cocktails as well as wine. I loved how relaxing yet luxurious the setting was. With several circular fireplaces, soft leather sofas dotted with soft pillows, and a full-service bar in dark wood. We then enjoyed a delicious 3-course meal complete with a wine flight selection best suited to each dish.

The Luxury Pit Stop Experience in a Morgan 4/4 and a Scenic Picnic in Andermatt Valley with The Chedi Hotel.

A true 007 Bond Girl adventure: during my stay at the Chedi Andermatt Hotel I really had the feeling of being on set for a James Bond film. Indeed, if you are a fan of James Bond, fast cars, fine wine, and dining, then this is the hotel for you. Why James Bond, you ask? Well, the iconic car chase from the James Bond Goldfinger was filmed in Andermatt itself. Indeed, the Chedi Andermatt Hotel pays tribute to this historic moment in cinema in the summer months by offering its guests a unique 007 experience known as the Luxury Pit Stop. The Chedi hotel organized a fantastic Luxury Pit Stop experience for me and Bella, and we had the most marvelous time. We tucked ourselves into the beautiful Vintage 4×4 Morgan and rode up into the mountains. It was truly like being on the set of an old movie and I adored every second of it! This experience is only available during the summer months, and I really recommend it. Indeed, you can also have the option at the hotel to have a picnic with the experience as well. This is what we did, we drove up and then set up our little picnic that was previously prepared by the hotel staff beforehand. Then once we had found the perfect spot, we took the little wicker picnic basket and blanket up with us and set up the picnic, and enjoyed a delicious late lunch against the stunning backdrop of the Urseren Valley. Complete with delicious spring rolls, fresh sandwiches, and delicious desserts.

In Conclusion

In total at the Chedi Andermatt, there are 123 elegant rooms and suites, five outstanding restaurants and bars, a modern Health Club, and an exceptional spa area. You really are spoilt for choice and pampered in terms of culinary experiences. This said, my personal favorite aspects of the Chedi Andermatt were:

⁃ The exceedingly professional, helpful, and polite staff (especially Chris who helped us set up the picnic in the perfect spot tucked away on a hillside that overlooked the valley).

⁃ The tranquility of the outdoor heated pool area. Possibly the most serene and connected to nature that I have felt in a long time.

⁃ The balcony area with a stunning view from the 6th floor.

⁃ The Morgan 4/4 Luxury pit stop experience, was truly unforgettable.

⁃ The gastronomical aspect: from the wine flight to the Asian delights, the endless choices in the morning at the breakfast buffets to the cheese room, it was a real strong point of the hotel stay.

As you can see, the Chedi Andermatt is the perfect place to visit in the summer. With its stunning location in the Swiss Alps, luxurious accommodations, and variety of activities and amenities, it’s an unforgettable experience that you won’t want to miss. A Luxury Wellness Retreat in the Italian Countryside at Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA in Sicily

Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA by MIRA Hotels

One of the most charming hotel resorts in the South-East of Sicily 2022: Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA

About The Location

In mid-June, I went for the first time ever to a beautiful and historic island in the south of Italy. Sicily is in fact the biggest Italian Island. Sicily is famous for its beautiful cathedrals, lemon groves, vineyards, island beaches, and amazing architecture. Indeed, two of the most known landmarks are the Palermo Opera House and UNESCO Baroque church in Noto. Noto was quite close to where I stayed, and we went to visit this Sicilian city which is famous for its rich historical architectural heritage. Indeed, Noto has been hailed by Condé Nast Traveller as Sicily’s Hidden Gem.

Why so? Well, it is known as Sicily’s Capital of Baroque. Each and every building structure has its own unique and intricate design lavish churches, private palaces, and public buildings are all beautifully built. It is a true dream for those who love that époque as well as a good plate of pasta.

Sicily is also famous for those who love a good hike. It has super trekking routes, with the legendary Mount Etna Volcano being one of the most popular places to go. There are also incredible archeological and historical sites like the Valley of the Temples, the Segesta Temple, and the Baroque town of Noto.

This rich heritage is because Sicily has been home to many ancient civilizations: from the Greeks to the Romans and the Ottoman Empire, this island in the Mediterranean Sea was a real melting pot of history and culture. So needless to say, Sicily had been on my list of places to go for quite some time and I was delighted to be able to visit Italy once again this summer. During my stay, I was hosted by the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa which is a 5-star hotel just between Syracuse and Noto.

Getting to Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA – and Beyond It

There are two main airports in Sicily: Palermo and Catania. I recommend flying into Catania as it is just over an hour from the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA. For this, you can either rent a car or organize a transfer which is super easy to do from the airport. I opted for a private transfer (SunTransfers was the name of the company), as I had used it beforehand when traveling in Saint Tropez, so I knew it was trustworthy and efficient. I made sure to do the whole coordination before flying, especially as my flight was at an ungodly hour, so I would not need to think too hard about how, when, where, and what not once I landed in Sicily.

Located in the south-eastern part of Sicily, you will find Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort, nestled just 12 km from the sea. It is situated between 2 beautiful and historically rich cities: Siracusa (or Syracuse) and Noto.

Mira’s Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA is in a rural area. Surrounded by citrus orchards and olive trees, this Golf Resort is one of the top picks when it comes to looking for the best luxury hotels in Sicily.

After a little over an hour of driving through the beautiful Italian countryside, we passed through a neat row of trees that lined each side of the road and then pulled up to the hotel’s private parking. We were then greeted by the hotel concierge who (given the early hour) invited us to discover the breakfast buffet and a cup of strong Italian coffee. We gladly accepted this offer and walked through the white, cool corridors and down a passageway to the breakfast room.

About The Hotel: Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa

A 5-star hotel in the secluded Syracuse outback, Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals. It promises a unique stay in the rural area surrounded by citrus and olive groves. Perfect for nature lovers: The villa is a tranquil oasis, with plenty of greenery surrounding the grounds and an 18-hole golf course to really bring the villa to life. So if you’re looking for an authentic Sicilian villa and plenty of gardens to relax and unwind in, you’ll find just that at this beautiful hotel.

Before becoming a hotel, it was in fact an ancient Benedictine monastery. In 2012 it was transformed into a 5-star hotel. It has all the characteristics of a Roman farm villa and offers elegantly decorated and modern common areas.

The entrance hall is large and leads off to different areas including a beautiful patio with a panoramic terrace where guests can relax with a glass of good wine.

About The Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Hotel Rooms

We were led to our room which was situated in the courtyard right next to a ripe apricot tree. Our room was furnished in a modern sophisticated manner. As you entered the room there was a large wooden desk and cabinet filled with water and coffee. There was also a sofa seating area which was just next to a sliding door. Behind which was a beautiful large walk-in wardrobe that led you through to the large bathroom. Cream white interiors with dark wood floors, the room was tranquil and elegant. It has a staircase that led up to a mezzanine where there was a plush bed, another built-in wardrobe, and a bathroom, both the upstairs and downstairs had showers. The room felt like the perfect, cool refuge from the Sicilian sun.

The hotel has a total of 102 rooms, located in different buildings, divided into the following sections:

  • Superior – 35 m2, double or single bed, with a view of the golf or the garden view
  • Premium Borgo – 35 m2, double bed, with a golf view
  • Deluxe Villa – 30 m2, double bed, located inside the old monastery.
  • Junior Suite – 35 m2, double bed, view of the ancient inner courtyards.
  • Suite – 60 m2, double bed, view of the courtyards of the old monastery.

The Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Breakfast Buffet

At the restaurant Sala Laghetto guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are only a la carte with Mediterranean cuisine. Special menus for vegetarians and coeliacs are available on request. We actually had breakfast in the room the second day, which I would highly recommend. A large platter is brought to your room on a golf caddie, laden with fresh fruits (including one of my all-time favorites: papaya!), scrambled eggs, cheeses, salmon, and bread. Along with fresh juice and Italian coffee to ensure that we started the day off in the best possible way.

About the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Services & Activities: The Spa, Golf & Swimming Pool

With two outdoor swimming pools that are interconnected and a large spa, the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort is the perfect place to relax and unwind. I performed enjoyed the pool area as they had very comfortable lounge beds so you could laze around the water.

You can also relax at the full-service Zàgara spa, and enjoy their massages, body treatments, and facials. Designed in 2013 by the architect Simone Micheli. The spa is spread over 300 square meters and it is divided into different areas: Turkish bath, emotional shower, sauna, Jacuzzi, relaxation area, 5 cabins equipped for personalized wellness treatments and a salt room.

The sun-drenched golf course is certainly one of the main highlights of the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort: it is set in 86 hectares of orange and lemon trees and immersed in lush Mediterranean vegetation, with mandarins, lemons, and figs. It is an 18-hole, par 71 golf course of 6,250 meters and was designed by David Mezzacane (president of the Italian Association of Golf Course Architects) and Vincenzo Mazzacane. There is also a pro-shop, where you can get all the necessary equipment for golfing, changing rooms and lockers.

What is more, they offer golf lessons on-site at the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort. So we headed to the driving range of the golf course which has 40 stations and putting greens after a little dip in the swimming pool.

Now, these are not your average golf lessons as your instructor is an expert with an incredible professional journey. The golf lesson was with the professional Italian golfer Anna Nistri, who is the winner of three Italian Championships and her career includes 15 years in the Italian national team, and 2 years of the European tour. She is on the Emilia Romagna Regional Committee.

Other services that the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort offers include horseback riding, diving, and sailing excursions in the surrounding area, upon request.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA is truly a place to escape from everyday life and relax in the lush, Sicilian vegetation. Picking apricots straight from the tree and enjoying them, the swimming pool area and golf lessons were certainly one of the highlights for me.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos: A Dreamy Destination for Luxury Lovers

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos: A Dreamy Destination for Luxury Lovers

A TRENDY DESTINATION IN MYKONOS. IN THIS ARTICLE I INTRODUCE YOU TO THE PETASOS BEACH RESORT & SPA – THE ULTIMATE HOTEL EXPERIENCE

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos – A luxurious boutique hotel ideally situated on the Greek Island

One of the best hotels in Mykonos, Petasos Beach Resort stands on its own private peninsula. This hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Ideally situated between Platis Yialos and Psarou Beach in Mykonos Island. The luxury hotel is just under a 20-minute drive from the charming main town of Chora, more commonly known as Mykonos Town. The hotel also offers airport transport by private shuttle, or you can book one of the 30 taxis available on the island. In short, the hotel location is fantastic and super central. The Petasos Beach Resort includes a large spa & wellness center, a fitness center, and a 2-level, saltwater swimming pool with a waterfall as well as direct access to the sea. With my fellow travel companion, luxury blogger, and longtime friend, Stephanie Olivier, we had the pleasure of discovering one of the coolest hotels in Mykonos together.

Mykonos Island: About The Location

Mykonos is a beautiful Greek Island that offers luxury, history, exquisite cuisine, shimmering sea shores, and amazing beach clubs. It is known as The Island of the Wind. The island is located in the Cycladic region of the beautiful Aegean Sea. Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan European hot spot destinations in the summertime. The world elite can be met here. The Greek Island counts hundreds of credits by the international press. Mykonos has some of the most beautiful beaches as well as picturesque villages. It is a much-loved vacation hideaway for the jet-set crowd as well as being a fabulous destination for luxury lovers with a penchant for the bohemian lifestyle.

The greek island is known most famously as a party destination. Celebrities, models (including Kate Moss, Kendall Jenner, Gigi, and Bella Hadid), football players, actors, and high flyers all flock to the island each summer to soak up the sunshine, dance on mega yachts, and swim in the crystal blue sea. Indeed, even during our stay at Petasos, hotel guests included a British football player and several models. Moreover, Mykonos island was recently the backdrop for the latest Fendi campaign for this summer. So needless to say, luxury runs rampant throughout the island. This said Mykonos is also the perfect location if you want a quiet vacation in a chic hotel lounging by the sea and enjoying a wellness retreat.

Our Experience in Mykonos

This was not my first time visiting the Greek island. I actually went the first time when I was very small, about 7 or 6 years old with my family in the very early 2000s. This was back when the island was still a wild, untouched raw beauty. Not yet famed for the party-loving lifestyle. Indeed my early memories of Mykonos island were of the Greek donkeys climbing up the rocky mountains. I had since been back a multitude of times in my 20s and had already been to the famous beach clubs such as Scorpios (one of my personal favorites), Nammos, and Principote Mykonos as well as the most popular nightclubs in Mykonos Town, such as Bonbonniere and Astra. Stephanie has been going religiously every year to the island each summer since I met her, so needless to say, we were not strangers to the Myconian way of life. This said I was quite excited to experience the Greek hospitality at the beautiful Petasos Beach Resort & Spa.

We caught a super early flight into Mykonos directly from Geneva. Luckily, our room was already prepared for us and we received and super warm welcome from the friendly Petasos hotel staff. The first thing we did was unpack and settle into our large hotel suite with a fantastic view of the sea. Then we freshened up and headed to the beachfront that is exclusively reserved for hotel guests.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa

Petasos hotel is well-placed for visiting the better beaches of Mykonos such as Platis Yialos and Psarou Beach as the property is a 2-minute walk from these beaches. Psarou beach is where the famous blue and white beach club NAMMOS Mykonos is located. You can actually see it from the hotel as well. For those who seek a calm oasis of privacy, at Petasos Beach Resort you can enjoy their private beach that is exclusively reserved for their hotel guests.

From the Petasos’ private hotel beach area you can order delicious food from their menu. For example, you can enjoy the Greek specialty which I personally adore, called Caffe Freddo on the seashore. We also ordered fresh fish from their beach club menu.

The location was so dreamy. I loved the pretty red beach beds which were neatly lined in the sand. The whole atmosphere actually reminded me of the Italian Riviera, and in particular Capri Island. I must say, having a private beach was one of my favorite aspects of the hotel.

Prefer the pool? You can also enjoy the day relaxing on the chic loungers by the pool and enjoying their chill music. Right next to the swimming pool are the bar and restaurant; creative fusion gastronomy. There is a jacuzzi and beautiful sun deck area as well. For those who want to stay in shape, there is a small but very nice gym. You can also enjoy one of their yoga classes, and then treat yourself to a massage at the hotel spa (which is exactly what we did after a full day at the beach).

Our first day in Mykonos was spent lounging by the sea at the hotel’s private beach. Then around 5 pm, we headed up to the Petasos Beach Resort & SPA where we had booked a double massage treatment. This deep relaxation was very much needed after our early wake-up call.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The wellness & SPA treatments

The Aqua Marine Spa was located just beneath our hotel suite, so we headed down the stairs into the cool SPA. There we were greeted by the lovely SPA manager, Dora, and made our selection of treatments. The Petasos Beach Resort and Spa offers revitalizing and thalasso-therapy treatments, as well as honeymoon packages.

I opted for a full-body, deep relaxation and Stephanie chose a combined massage. We were both incredibly relaxed after the treatment and slowly went up to our room to get ready for the iconic Myconian evening sunset.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The Hotel Rooms

The luxurious Petasos Beach is like a small village. Lined with the iconic white-washed Myconian buildings, set against the most breathtaking views of the seaside. This architecture is echoed throughout the Cyclades islands, the shapes and colors are inspired by the blue Mediterranean sea and white clouds.

The hotel rooms are decorated in a minimal-chic, modern manner. All of the accommodation options are equipped with Wi-Fi internet access. Deluxe and superior rooms also feature a spa bath and a shower which doubles up as a steam cabin.

The spacious rooms and suites, also come with Jacuzzi options and private outdoor pools in the suites with incredibly beautiful, grand panoramic views. I love the transparent division between the bath and my room. You can sit in your bubble bath and look over the beautiful blue sea in the distance. Of course, it also has blinds which you can shut, for those who want more privacy. Needless to say that I was delighted that they had a little espresso machine in the room, so I could enjoy a quick pick-me-up coffee when needed. Our ensuite room included a beautiful blue and white balcony which overlooked the mega yachts dotted along the coastline. As well as a huge wardrobe which I immediately filled with my many bikinis, beach cover-ups, new “Livia” Thalie Paris bag in Tanzanite Blue and Greek Island attire. I loved that the room had a big, full-sized mirror for us, fashion bloggers, to make sure our outfits were on point. There was also a pretty seating area near the terrace, complete with a white sofa and armchairs for when we wanted to lounge around. With the heat, we also took full advantage of the room’s air conditioning, which could be easily adjusted at all times.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The Breakfast Buffet & Menu

The Petasos Beach Resort and Spa offers an experience at any time and goes far beyond a simple hotel where you rest and relax. There are 2 restaurants within the premises of the Resort, with a great view of the Aegean sea. Each day, we started with a 45-minute session at the hotel gym before heading to their open-air restaurant. I must say, I really enjoyed the options available at the breakfast buffet. I had never seen so many dietary-restricted-friendly options! Including alternative kinds of milk such as soy, coconut, and almond. They also had an incredible array of nut butter, which I had no idea even existed and so I was very curious to try them. The full selection of nut butters included classics like almond and peanut, but there was also cashew, hazel, pumpkin, tahini, and sunflower seed! Each day, I also ordered my favorite almond milk cappuccino for breakfast. And each morning our table was full of fresh fruit, eggs, oatmeal, gluten-free bread, juices, and of course, the unique creamy Greek yogurt with walnuts and honey.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: Final Thoughts

It’s not difficult to fall in love with such a dreamy hotel located in beautiful Mykonos. This said my favorite aspects of the hotel were:

  • The incredible Breakfast
  • Private Beach
  • Hotel Spa & personalized treatments
  • Friendly and super helpful Hotel Staff
  • The beautiful Myconian architecture and design of the hotel

If you are looking for a hotel to book in Mykonos, Petasos Beach Resort & Spa is perfect for:

  • Jet-setters and high flyers
  • Foodies
  • A romantic couples getaway
  • Families
  • Friend groups who loves luxury and creature comforts
  • Whilst the Petasos villas are ideal for longer stays as they include a kitchen, private pool, and other facilities
  • And their hotel suites offer all you could want for a weeklong vacation

I hope that you enjoyed my review of this wonderful hotel in Mykonos. Please let me know in the comments if you would also like to visit this place. For more travel articles and hotel reviews please click here.
