Introduction: A Swiss Fashion Blogger’s Exquisite Journey at Fashion Week

Fashion Week in Paris: A highly anticipated event that brings together designers, fashion enthusiasts, and industry professionals from around the world. As a Swiss fashion blogger, influencer, and illustrator, attending Paris Fashion Week is a dream come true. I had the privilege of attending Paris Fashion Week, immersing myself in the captivating world of high fashion. The Fall-Winter 23-24 Paris Fashion Week, held from February 27th to March 7th, 2023, showcased the latest trends and collections from renowned fashion houses. It was an incredible opportunity to witness the latest trends and designs up close. It was a wonderful week filled with remarkable shows, private events, and presentations, where creativity, artistry, and innovation intertwined seamlessly.

Unveiling the Runway and Presentations of AW2023/24

Day 1: Maitrepierre and Victoria Thomas Fashion Shows and Maison Kitsuné

The first day of Paris Fashion Week kicked off with the highly anticipated Maitrepierre fashion show, held in the breathtaking Palais de Tokyo. Alphonse Maitrepierre, a visionary designer, unveiled his latest collection that seamlessly blended bold prints and textures. The runway came alive with vibrant colors and avant-garde designs, leaving the audience in awe. Following the Maitrepierre show, I made my way to the charming Marais district to attend the Victoria Thomas fashion show. To conclude the day on a high note, I eagerly headed to the Maison Kitsuné presentation.

Maitrepierre: Blending Nature and Technology

Maitrepierre: Blending Nature and Technology for an Exquisite Fall-Winter 23-24 Collection. I discovered this brand last season at the Sphere Paris Fashion Week Showroom and fell in love with their leather goods. So it was a pleasure to be invited to attend the show this season.

Maitrepierre is a brand recognized for its exquisite leather goods, Alphonso captivated the audience with its Fall-Winter 23-24 collection. Inspired by the Shinto belief of “Shishi-Gami,” the spirit of the forest, the collection emphasized the harmonious connection between humanity and nature. Maitrepierre chose to showcase this relationship through the lens of technology. The prints in this season’s collection were created using artificial intelligence and computer coding, resulting in mesmerizing illusions of flowers and textures reminiscent of plants.

Embracing Sustainability

Furthermore, Maitrepierre’s commitment to sustainability was evident in their use of dead-stock fabrics, recycled materials, and local prints. By incorporating sustainable practices into their designs, Maitrepierre not only invited the audience to appreciate the beauty of nature but also served as a reminder of the importance of reconnecting with the environment.

Maison Kitsuné: Elevating Playful Spirit with Ease

Maison Kitsuné: Elevating Playful Spirit with Ease in the Fall-Winter 23-24 Collection.

Then I headed to the Maison Kitsuné Fall-Winter 2023/24 presentation. This collection breathed new life into the brand’s playful spirit. Known for their silhouettes that subtly combine tailoring, streetwear influences, comfort, and practicality together, Maison Kitsuné introduced an array of wardrobe essentials with an elevated ease. Drawing inspiration from the clash between Teddy girls (a subculture of 50s girl gangs) and Eton boys, the collection infused punk rebellion with preppy tradition.

A Fusion of Styles

Collegiate stripes, regatta florals, and imagined insignia collided with contemporary cool, reimagining staples such as rugby shirts, varsity jackets, and polos. Maison Kitsuné even unveiled its first handbag, The Boogie, a meticulously crafted camera bag made from Italian leather, adding a fresh retro touch to the collection. Traditional checks took on new scales, and oversized proportions imbued historic propriety with a casual, modern insouciance.

Day 2: Roger Vivier, Magda Butrym, Chaumet, and Alexis Mabille

Day two started with a visit to the captivating Magda Butrym presentation. Next on the agenda was the Roger Vivier event, where the iconic luxury brand showcased its latest creations. Amidst the fashion week frenzy, I also had the privilege of attending the Chaumet event and the Alexis Mabille presentation.

Magda Butrym: A Celebration of Romanticism and Modernity

Magda Butrym: Redefining romanticism and modernity with its Fall-Winter 23-24 Collection.

This was the first presentation of the day and I was so excited to see it. As a Swiss Polish fashion illustrator I was really excited to support this rising star from Poland. Indeed, the Magda Butrym showroom was a must-visit destination during Paris Fashion Week. Known best for her floral rosettes, her Parisian showroom paid homage to this statement: completely immersed in roses, everything smelt like roses, and there was a beautiful rose-filled room featuring stunning new accessories.

Timeless Elegance with a Playful Twist

The designer Magda Butrym is renowned for its statement rosette chokers and beautiful dresses. Her brand showcases a collection that celebrates both romanticism and modernity. Magda Butrym’s designs exuded femininity and edginess, combining elements of floral appliqués, high slits, and cutouts. The collection was comprised of ultra-wearable designs which look amazing from day to night. The collection featured a new print, and floral-appliqués, adding a playful touch to the seductive silhouettes. With each piece meticulously crafted, Magda Butrym continues to captivate insiders and A-listers alike, proving once again why the brand is revered for its unique blend of opulence, feminine charm and contemporary flair. I truly hope to see it in Switzerland soon.

Roger Vivier: The Art of Accessorizing

Roger Vivier: Redefining the Art of Accessorizing with the Fall-Winter 23-24 Collection.

Under the exquisite rocaille woodwork of the Maison de l’Amérique Latine, Roger Vivier presented a glamorous and couture shoe collection that epitomized the art of accessorizing. Known for their iconic buckle designs, Roger Vivier’s Fall-Winter 2023-24 collection showcased a stunning array of footwear that combined elegance, craftsmanship, and artistic flair. “The Fabergé of shoes”, the Roger Vivier presentation was like stepping into a fantasy world where you could witness the creativity of the house’s ateliers and couture up close. Spread across two floors, and the sprawling garden, the upper level is filled with live artisans, live drawing, and cobblers creating Roger Vivier shoes in their pop-up ateliers. Each corner of the presentation was filled with glittering treasure troves of shoes, bags, and incredible accessories. There was a live music performance and a pianist that serenaded us up the staircase. This was where I bumped into a Parsons Paris classmate, Rachel Cunningham, who has since become a very successful artist in Paris. It was a real pleasure to see her at the Roger Vivier presentation. Several notable personalities attended including, VIP guests Carla Bruni and Ciara.

Unleashing Creativity and Collaboration

The Italian designer Gherardo Felloni unveiled his new shoe collection for Roger Vivier. The collection featured a variety of shoe styles, including pumps, boots, and sandals, each adorned with intricate details and embellishments. Luxurious materials like velvet, satin, and metallic leather were used to create eye-catching designs that exuded opulence.

Chaumet: Haute Joaillerie Extravaganza

Chaumet: Mesmerizing Haute Joaillerie Collection at Fall-Winter 23-24 Paris Fashion Week.

After the Roger Vivier presentation, we hailed a taxi and headed to the iconic Place de Vendôme for an exceptional appointment at Chaumet to discover their latest The Liens collection. Beyond the realm of fashion, Chaumet, the renowned Parisian jewelry house, mesmerized us with its extravagant Haute Joaillerie collection. Inspired by the enchanting world of fairy tales, the collection transported spectators to a realm of fantasy and luxury. It is often said that Haute Joaillerie is to jewelry what Haute Couture is to fashion: the creation of hand-crafted, bespoke jewels by craftsmen with exceptional skills.

Exquisite Craftsmanship Links up with Timeless Beauty

Chaumet’s exquisite craftsmanship was showcased through a variety of pieces, including necklaces, earrings, rings, and tiaras. The collection featured an abundance of diamonds, precious gemstones, and intricate metalwork, all meticulously crafted to capture the essence of magical stories. Each piece exemplified the brand’s exceptional attention to detail and creativity.

Alexis Mabille: Bold and Playful Elegance

Alexis Mabille: Showcasing Bold and Playful Elegance at Paris Fashion Week.

Our last stop for the day was the Alexis Mabille presentation. This French fashion designer is known for his avant-garde designs and theatrical presentations, bringing a sense of bold and playful elegance to Paris Fashion Week. The Fall-Winter 23-24 collection featured a fusion of contemporary and classical elements, resulting in captivating and innovative designs splashed with color.

A Vibrant Shower of Colors

Mabille’s “Rainbow Drops” collection showcased a vibrant color palette, combining rich jewel tones with pops of bright hues. Bold prints, unique silhouettes, and unexpected fabric combinations were at the forefront of his designs, creating visually striking pieces that exuded confidence and individuality. One notable highlight of the collection was the emphasis on oversized bows, which added a touch of drama and femininity to the collection. My personal favorite was a flowing “parachute” dress in marigold yellow.

Day 3: Leonard, DIDU, Jitrois, Global Fashion Show Collective, and Enfants Riches Déprimes Fashion Shows

The third day of Paris Fashion Week dawned with the highly anticipated Leonard Paris show. Each ensemble was a masterpiece that blended art and fashion seamlessly, captivating the audience with its beauty and sophistication. Continuing the fashion-filled day, I made my way to the DIDU fashion show where I sat front row. In the afternoon, I found myself drawn to the alluring Jitrois showroom, known for its iconic stretch leather designs. Then I went to Le Marais to see the stunning new collection of Andrew GN. As the day progressed, I had the pleasure of attending the Global Fashion Show Collective, which celebrated diversity in fashion. Designers from around the world came together, showcasing their unique cultural influences and perspectives. The runway was a vibrant tapestry of colors, textures, and innovative designs, embodying the true essence of a global fashion celebration. The day concluded with the Enfants Riches Déprimes show, held in an intimate venue. The collection paid homage to punk-rock aesthetics, showcasing rebellious and edgy designs that pushed the boundaries of conventional fashion.

Leonard Paris

Leonard Paris: showcased a collection inspired by the life of a Leonard woman, who enjoys skiing, picnics, and après-ski moments. For fall-winter 2023-24, Georg Lux took us on a 24-hour journey into the life of a LEONARD woman. A woman at the summit, skiing down the sides of mountains with inaccessible peaks. I was so happy to read that the collection had taken inspiration from my home country, Switzerland, and most specifically the beautiful mountains of Crans Montana. The collection incorporated flamboyant colors, paisley designs from the label’s archives, tiger prints, and trompe-l’oeil jewel patterns. It featured hooded jumpsuits, jersey quilted overalls, strapless dresses, wool capes, and voluminous coats. Inspired by the iconic muse from the 60s and 70s, German aristocrat, actress, and the first ever supermodel Veruschka von Lehndorff. Embodying the spirit of old money and decadence in the best kind of way. Luxury at its finest, the show intrinsically reminded me of the lyrics of Peter Sarstedt’s song “Where Do You Go to (My Lovely)”. Once again I adored Georg Lux’s collection and was so happy to be able to attend such a beautiful fashion show.

DIDU

Didu: Paris Womenswear Fall Winter 2023-2024 fashion show.

Next, I hopped in a cab and headed to the Didu fashion show. The fashion show presented was called “Ici c’est le paradis,”. It was the first collection of DIDU developed entirely in Paris after the designer moved from Shanghai in October 2022. Fashion is often a reflection of the spirit of the times. In a world where violence and sadness seem to reign, DIDU, the brand founded by Di Du, offers a collection that celebrates softness, and the beauty and joie de vivre.

The collection celebrated the beauty and joy one can find in a world that can often seem so bleak. The collection drew inspiration from European ballet costumes and Chinese qipao (a symbol of opulence in 1920s Shanghai), blending delicate fabrics with traditional elements. It featured faded colors, destroyed knitwear, stand-up collars, and floral embroidery, conveying a sense of urgency to cherish moments of happiness. These threadbare fabrics showcased the vulnerability of the rare moments of joy, that must be cherished in life. After the show, I went to the JITROIS showroom to see the new Autumn-Winter 23/24 Collection « Identities ».

JITROIS

Jitrois showcased the “Identities” collection, inspired by the Punk scene of 1980s London. We met with Jean-Claude Jitrois, the creator of stretch leather, and discovered the new collection. This season saw the house’s iconic stretch leather take on new forms, with bolder colors and unexpected textures. The collection features a mix of structured and fluid designs, combining tailored pieces with flowing silhouettes.

The “Identities” collection by Jitrois is a celebration of individuality and self-expression. Each garment is designed to empower the wearer and showcase their unique personality. The punk influence is evident in the rebellious spirit of the collection, with edgy details such as studs, zippers, and asymmetric cuts. Whilst the use of stretch leather, a signature material of Jitrois, adds a touch of sensuality and versatility to the collection. It allows for a body-hugging fit that accentuates the curves of the body. The leather is expertly crafted and treated to create various textures and finishes, from smooth and shiny to matte and textured.

The color palette of the collection ranges from classic black to vibrant hues like electric blue, fiery red, and bold metallics. The juxtaposition of bold colors and intricate details creates a visually striking collection that demands attention. Overall, the Jitrois Autumn-Winter 23/24 Collection “Identities” is a fusion of punk attitude, Parisian sophistication, and individuality. It invites the wearer to embrace their unique identity and express themselves through fashion. With its bold designs, luxurious materials, and impeccable craftsmanship, the collection embodies the spirit of self-confidence and empowerment.

Andrew GN

Andrew Gn is Singapore’s most famous fashion designer, and he recently unveiled his fall collection titled “Roots.” The collection not only pays homage to Gn’s Asian heritage but also represents his entire life story.

The fall collection by Andrew Gn carries the name “Roots” for multiple reasons. Beyond his Asian origin, Gn believes that roots symbolize more than just one’s birthplace. During a showroom preview, Gn expressed that roots encompass the places one has been in life. The collection serves as a reflection of Gn’s journey and showcases his multicultural identity.

Gn drew inspiration from his Japanese grandmother’s kimono, dating back to the turn of the last century. A gold-caramel plissé column dress, featuring iris borders and signature butterflies, pays homage to this family heirloom. Gn meticulously hand-painted the motifs in gouache and watercolor in his Paris studio, which were later printed in Lyon and transformed into Fortuny pleats using traditional techniques. This fusion of Japanese and French traditions creates a harmonious bridge between the two cultures. What I really loved about this collection was the way in which Andrew Gn elevates opulence. This fall collection featured rich greens, intricate rhinestones, and vintage lace. I truly adored the pieces, notably the simple ’60s shift dress, adorned with rhinestones dyed to match the fabric, capturing the essence of timeless elegance.

Enfants Riches Déprimes

Enfants Riches Déprimés is a brand known for its unique and avant-garde fashion, showcased its Fall Winter 2023 collection with a runway show filled with red hues and leather. Rough meets refinement: The collection, curated by creative director Henri Levy, embodies a multifaceted expression, drawing inspiration from gloomy German aesthetics and hints of the Soviet Union. It took place in a Chinese restaurant where there was a group of middle-aged men gambling and playing cards in the center of the stage. Loud rap and hip-hop music blazed through the restaurant as guests took up their seats (all front row) and the fashion photographers yelled at guests to uncross their legs as the scowling models started to stomp down the makeshift runway.

Military uniforms meet Victorian rebels with an edge

It was a collective pastiche that commemorates the rough and refined, showcasing garments made with contrasting fabrics to create a clash of softness and harshness, resulting in unpolished elegance with a bit of darkness. Corsets, ultra-short skirts, and unexpected accessories added a rebellious undertone. Enfants Riches Déprimés proudly embraces its unisex essence this season, challenging gender stereotypes and allowing individuals to express their individuality. Platform heels become a symbol of inclusivity, transcending traditional notions of gender and empowering everyone to embrace their unique identity. The show was an exhilarating experience, leaving a lasting impression of raw creativity and self-expression.

Day 4: Alexandre Vauthier, Versace, and Thalie

On day 4, we went to the showroom of Thalie where we saw the latest handbags from her collection, which are currently available at the upscale department store chain, Printemps. Then we went to the Alexandre Vauthier presentation. Which was incredibly breathtaking, we met the designer in person and spoke with him about the beautiful collection. The only restriction was that no photos were allowed to be shared on social media of that collection. Then I had the opportunity to attend a Versace cocktail event held in Paris, where the latest collection was showcased and fashion enthusiasts indulged in conversations about the fabulous fashion show and upcoming events for their capsule collections that would be unveiled in Los Angels and Saint Tropez. The iconic Italian luxury brand lived up to its reputation, delivering a collection that flawlessly blended boldness, opulence, and the quintessential Versace aesthetic.

Days 5 and 6: Barbara Bui, Eenk, Calvin Luo, and A.W.A.K.E Fashion Show

The final two days of Paris Fashion Week were nothing short of extraordinary. I had the pleasure of attending the Barbara Bui presentation in the vibrant Le Marais neighborhood. The collection showcased the brand’s signature blend of elegance and edge, with modern silhouettes and unexpected details. Each ensemble effortlessly captured the spirit of contemporary fashion.

Next on the agenda was the Eenk fashion show, which presented an eclectic mix of styles and influences. The collection was a departure from the borders of the old world and lands in an adventurous territory of obscure boundaries and reconstructed identities. Then, I attended the Calvin Luo show, held in an enchanting, Parisian venue. The collection embodied the essence of modernity and sophistication, with sleek silhouettes, clean lines, and unexpected twists. Luo’s attention to detail and impeccable tailoring showcased his mastery of the art of fashion design.

To conclude the captivating experience, I attended the A.W.A.K.E Fashion Show. The collection was a juxtaposition of femininity and masculinity. Bold colors, voluminous shapes, and unexpected textures came together to create a visual feast for the senses. The show left everyone in awe, sealing the unforgettable memories of Paris Fashion Week.

Conclusion

Attending Paris Fashion Week as a fashion illustrator and blogger was an extraordinary experience. The week-long extravaganza immersed me in the world of fashion, craftsmanship, and creativity. From the stunning fashion shows to the immersive presentations and exclusive luxury brand events, each day was a whirlwind of inspiration and excitement. Paris Fashion Week showcased the diversity of fashion, with designers pushing boundaries, celebrating individuality, and embracing cultural influences. The collections were a testament to the power of creativity and innovation, captivating audiences and leaving a lasting impression.

For anyone passionate about fashion, attending an event of this magnitude is a dream come true. The energy, talent, and artistic vision displayed throughout Paris Fashion Week inspires not only industry professionals but also fashion enthusiasts around the world. It is an experience that continues to shape my perspective as a fashion illustrator and blogger, fueling my passion for capturing the essence of style through art and words.

As the curtains close on Paris Fashion Week, I am still so grateful to have had the opportunity to attend PFW. Witnessing firsthand the Alexandre Vauthier, Andrew Gn, Maitrepierre, Magda Butrym, Maison Kitsuné, Roger Vivier, Chaumet, Alexis Mabille, Leonard Paris, Didu, and Jitrois showcases allowed me to immerse myself in a diverse range of styles and aesthetics. From sustainable and nature-inspired collections to glamorous accessories and avant-garde designs, the fashion week experience was a true celebration of creativity and self-expression. The ultimate Greek Island Travel Guide by A Stylish Story

The Best Greek Islands for Vacation

The Greek Islands are a real hot spot for world-class hotel resorts and luxury boutique hideaways. With travel bans lifted in Europe, Greece has come out on top as one of the best places to summer in.

I personally love Greece and have been consistently revisiting this country since my childhood. When I was 8, we rented a villa in Crete for 3 months and explored several Greek islands. Visiting Santorini, Mykonos, Ios, and many other islands. That trip was one of my favorites as a child. Even back then, I was a budding artist so inspired by the colors of the stunning sunsets we watched every evening that I would take my Caran d’Ache crayons and a blank page every night to recreate the skies mesmerizing shades of flaming red and orange turning to dark blue.

What’s more, when I was a teenager I spent several summers in Antiparos which is a tiny, yet charming Greek Island opposite Paros.

This year I went back to one of my favorite Greek islands, Mykonos, and also visited a new one that I had never been to before: Rhodes.

About Rhodes

This Greek island is steeped in history, although there is a touch of luxury and glamour on the islands (we saw several mega yachts dotted along the coastline and a private jet landing as we headed to the airport). It is also so close to Turkey that many travelers hop on a boat after flying into Rhodes and head to hotspot destinations such as the Turkish Island, Bodrum for example.

Rhodes is known for its medieval architecture, wineries, and beaches. It was a key island in the ancient world and once was home to one of the Seven Wonders of the World: the Colossus of Rhodes. A huge bronze statue of the Greek sun god Helios that took 12 years to build. Rhodes was then one of the most important trading ports in the ancient Mediterranean and the statue stood at the entrance of their key port. There are also several historical elements worth visiting for history buffs including stunning Byzantine churches, hilltop castles, and faded frescos as well as many Roman ruins.

About Our Stay in Rhodes at the Lindian Village 5-Star Hotel Resort in Lindos, Rhodes

As the hotel we were staying at was located near Lindos, we opted to hire a car. This also allowed us to do excursions around the island during the day as well. There are options for private transfers as well as taxis on the island.

What was great about the Lindian Village 5-Star Hotel Resort is that it had a wide range of room categories – many of which are suites that have their own private pools. This said there was also two main pools for all guests and of course access to the sea too as the hotel sits on the coastline and has a private hotel beach. There is a multitude of activities available as well and the facilities include a full-sized tennis court, pool bar area with snacks and drinks available, and games areas with a pool table, ping-pong, and arcade games.

My favorite aspects of this 5-Star hotel were:

  • The architecture of the hotel, especially the layout of the hotel pool area, which was truly unique
  • The soothing surroundings with the crickets of the winding pebbled pathways
  • The beautiful water features and floral decorations that were dotted around the hotel, each corner was unique
  • The hotel’s cafe square area which had a lovely seating area
  • The incredibly delicious Greek food at their rooftop restaurant
  • The spacious rooms with private pools
  • The beachfront

A Luxury Wellness Retreat in the Italian Countryside at Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA in Sicily

Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA by MIRA Hotels

One of the most charming hotel resorts in the South-East of Sicily 2022: Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA

About The Location

In mid-June, I went for the first time ever to a beautiful and historic island in the south of Italy. Sicily is in fact the biggest Italian Island. Sicily is famous for its beautiful cathedrals, lemon groves, vineyards, island beaches, and amazing architecture. Indeed, two of the most known landmarks are the Palermo Opera House and UNESCO Baroque church in Noto. Noto was quite close to where I stayed, and we went to visit this Sicilian city which is famous for its rich historical architectural heritage. Indeed, Noto has been hailed by Condé Nast Traveller as Sicily’s Hidden Gem.

Why so? Well, it is known as Sicily’s Capital of Baroque. Each and every building structure has its own unique and intricate design lavish churches, private palaces, and public buildings are all beautifully built. It is a true dream for those who love that époque as well as a good plate of pasta.

Sicily is also famous for those who love a good hike. It has super trekking routes, with the legendary Mount Etna Volcano being one of the most popular places to go. There are also incredible archeological and historical sites like the Valley of the Temples, the Segesta Temple, and the Baroque town of Noto.

This rich heritage is because Sicily has been home to many ancient civilizations: from the Greeks to the Romans and the Ottoman Empire, this island in the Mediterranean Sea was a real melting pot of history and culture. So needless to say, Sicily had been on my list of places to go for quite some time and I was delighted to be able to visit Italy once again this summer. During my stay, I was hosted by the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa which is a 5-star hotel just between Syracuse and Noto.

Getting to Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA – and Beyond It

There are two main airports in Sicily: Palermo and Catania. I recommend flying into Catania as it is just over an hour from the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA. For this, you can either rent a car or organize a transfer which is super easy to do from the airport. I opted for a private transfer (SunTransfers was the name of the company), as I had used it beforehand when traveling in Saint Tropez, so I knew it was trustworthy and efficient. I made sure to do the whole coordination before flying, especially as my flight was at an ungodly hour, so I would not need to think too hard about how, when, where, and what not once I landed in Sicily.

Located in the south-eastern part of Sicily, you will find Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort, nestled just 12 km from the sea. It is situated between 2 beautiful and historically rich cities: Siracusa (or Syracuse) and Noto.

Mira’s Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA is in a rural area. Surrounded by citrus orchards and olive trees, this Golf Resort is one of the top picks when it comes to looking for the best luxury hotels in Sicily.

After a little over an hour of driving through the beautiful Italian countryside, we passed through a neat row of trees that lined each side of the road and then pulled up to the hotel’s private parking. We were then greeted by the hotel concierge who (given the early hour) invited us to discover the breakfast buffet and a cup of strong Italian coffee. We gladly accepted this offer and walked through the white, cool corridors and down a passageway to the breakfast room.

About The Hotel: Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa

A 5-star hotel in the secluded Syracuse outback, Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa, a member of Radisson Individuals. It promises a unique stay in the rural area surrounded by citrus and olive groves. Perfect for nature lovers: The villa is a tranquil oasis, with plenty of greenery surrounding the grounds and an 18-hole golf course to really bring the villa to life. So if you’re looking for an authentic Sicilian villa and plenty of gardens to relax and unwind in, you’ll find just that at this beautiful hotel.

Before becoming a hotel, it was in fact an ancient Benedictine monastery. In 2012 it was transformed into a 5-star hotel. It has all the characteristics of a Roman farm villa and offers elegantly decorated and modern common areas.

The entrance hall is large and leads off to different areas including a beautiful patio with a panoramic terrace where guests can relax with a glass of good wine.

About The Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Hotel Rooms

We were led to our room which was situated in the courtyard right next to a ripe apricot tree. Our room was furnished in a modern sophisticated manner. As you entered the room there was a large wooden desk and cabinet filled with water and coffee. There was also a sofa seating area which was just next to a sliding door. Behind which was a beautiful large walk-in wardrobe that led you through to the large bathroom. Cream white interiors with dark wood floors, the room was tranquil and elegant. It has a staircase that led up to a mezzanine where there was a plush bed, another built-in wardrobe, and a bathroom, both the upstairs and downstairs had showers. The room felt like the perfect, cool refuge from the Sicilian sun.

The hotel has a total of 102 rooms, located in different buildings, divided into the following sections:

  • Superior – 35 m2, double or single bed, with a view of the golf or the garden view
  • Premium Borgo – 35 m2, double bed, with a golf view
  • Deluxe Villa – 30 m2, double bed, located inside the old monastery.
  • Junior Suite – 35 m2, double bed, view of the ancient inner courtyards.
  • Suite – 60 m2, double bed, view of the courtyards of the old monastery.

The Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Breakfast Buffet

At the restaurant Sala Laghetto guests can enjoy a buffet breakfast, lunch and dinner are only a la carte with Mediterranean cuisine. Special menus for vegetarians and coeliacs are available on request. We actually had breakfast in the room the second day, which I would highly recommend. A large platter is brought to your room on a golf caddie, laden with fresh fruits (including one of my all-time favorites: papaya!), scrambled eggs, cheeses, salmon, and bread. Along with fresh juice and Italian coffee to ensure that we started the day off in the best possible way.

About the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf Resort & Spa Services & Activities: The Spa, Golf & Swimming Pool

With two outdoor swimming pools that are interconnected and a large spa, the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort is the perfect place to relax and unwind. I performed enjoyed the pool area as they had very comfortable lounge beds so you could laze around the water.

You can also relax at the full-service Zàgara spa, and enjoy their massages, body treatments, and facials. Designed in 2013 by the architect Simone Micheli. The spa is spread over 300 square meters and it is divided into different areas: Turkish bath, emotional shower, sauna, Jacuzzi, relaxation area, 5 cabins equipped for personalized wellness treatments and a salt room.

The sun-drenched golf course is certainly one of the main highlights of the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort: it is set in 86 hectares of orange and lemon trees and immersed in lush Mediterranean vegetation, with mandarins, lemons, and figs. It is an 18-hole, par 71 golf course of 6,250 meters and was designed by David Mezzacane (president of the Italian Association of Golf Course Architects) and Vincenzo Mazzacane. There is also a pro-shop, where you can get all the necessary equipment for golfing, changing rooms and lockers.

What is more, they offer golf lessons on-site at the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort. So we headed to the driving range of the golf course which has 40 stations and putting greens after a little dip in the swimming pool.

Now, these are not your average golf lessons as your instructor is an expert with an incredible professional journey. The golf lesson was with the professional Italian golfer Anna Nistri, who is the winner of three Italian Championships and her career includes 15 years in the Italian national team, and 2 years of the European tour. She is on the Emilia Romagna Regional Committee.

Other services that the Borgo di Luce I Monasteri Golf & SPA Resort offers include horseback riding, diving, and sailing excursions in the surrounding area, upon request.

Conclusion

In my opinion, the Borgo di Luce – I Monasteri Golf Resort & SPA is truly a place to escape from everyday life and relax in the lush, Sicilian vegetation. Picking apricots straight from the tree and enjoying them, the swimming pool area and golf lessons were certainly one of the highlights for me.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos: A Dreamy Destination for Luxury Lovers

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos: A Dreamy Destination for Luxury Lovers

A TRENDY DESTINATION IN MYKONOS. IN THIS ARTICLE I INTRODUCE YOU TO THE PETASOS BEACH RESORT & SPA – THE ULTIMATE HOTEL EXPERIENCE

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa in Mykonos – A luxurious boutique hotel ideally situated on the Greek Island

One of the best hotels in Mykonos, Petasos Beach Resort stands on its own private peninsula. This hotel is part of the Small Luxury Hotels of the World. Ideally situated between Platis Yialos and Psarou Beach in Mykonos Island. The luxury hotel is just under a 20-minute drive from the charming main town of Chora, more commonly known as Mykonos Town. The hotel also offers airport transport by private shuttle, or you can book one of the 30 taxis available on the island. In short, the hotel location is fantastic and super central. The Petasos Beach Resort includes a large spa & wellness center, a fitness center, and a 2-level, saltwater swimming pool with a waterfall as well as direct access to the sea. With my fellow travel companion, luxury blogger, and longtime friend, Stephanie Olivier, we had the pleasure of discovering one of the coolest hotels in Mykonos together.

Mykonos Island: About The Location

Mykonos is a beautiful Greek Island that offers luxury, history, exquisite cuisine, shimmering sea shores, and amazing beach clubs. It is known as The Island of the Wind. The island is located in the Cycladic region of the beautiful Aegean Sea. Mykonos is one of the most cosmopolitan European hot spot destinations in the summertime. The world elite can be met here. The Greek Island counts hundreds of credits by the international press. Mykonos has some of the most beautiful beaches as well as picturesque villages. It is a much-loved vacation hideaway for the jet-set crowd as well as being a fabulous destination for luxury lovers with a penchant for the bohemian lifestyle.

The greek island is known most famously as a party destination. Celebrities, models (including Kate Moss, Kendall Jenner, Gigi, and Bella Hadid), football players, actors, and high flyers all flock to the island each summer to soak up the sunshine, dance on mega yachts, and swim in the crystal blue sea. Indeed, even during our stay at Petasos, hotel guests included a British football player and several models. Moreover, Mykonos island was recently the backdrop for the latest Fendi campaign for this summer. So needless to say, luxury runs rampant throughout the island. This said Mykonos is also the perfect location if you want a quiet vacation in a chic hotel lounging by the sea and enjoying a wellness retreat.

Our Experience in Mykonos

This was not my first time visiting the Greek island. I actually went the first time when I was very small, about 7 or 6 years old with my family in the very early 2000s. This was back when the island was still a wild, untouched raw beauty. Not yet famed for the party-loving lifestyle. Indeed my early memories of Mykonos island were of the Greek donkeys climbing up the rocky mountains. I had since been back a multitude of times in my 20s and had already been to the famous beach clubs such as Scorpios (one of my personal favorites), Nammos, and Principote Mykonos as well as the most popular nightclubs in Mykonos Town, such as Bonbonniere and Astra. Stephanie has been going religiously every year to the island each summer since I met her, so needless to say, we were not strangers to the Myconian way of life. This said I was quite excited to experience the Greek hospitality at the beautiful Petasos Beach Resort & Spa.

We caught a super early flight into Mykonos directly from Geneva. Luckily, our room was already prepared for us and we received and super warm welcome from the friendly Petasos hotel staff. The first thing we did was unpack and settle into our large hotel suite with a fantastic view of the sea. Then we freshened up and headed to the beachfront that is exclusively reserved for hotel guests.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa

Petasos hotel is well-placed for visiting the better beaches of Mykonos such as Platis Yialos and Psarou Beach as the property is a 2-minute walk from these beaches. Psarou beach is where the famous blue and white beach club NAMMOS Mykonos is located. You can actually see it from the hotel as well. For those who seek a calm oasis of privacy, at Petasos Beach Resort you can enjoy their private beach that is exclusively reserved for their hotel guests.

From the Petasos’ private hotel beach area you can order delicious food from their menu. For example, you can enjoy the Greek specialty which I personally adore, called Caffe Freddo on the seashore. We also ordered fresh fish from their beach club menu.

The location was so dreamy. I loved the pretty red beach beds which were neatly lined in the sand. The whole atmosphere actually reminded me of the Italian Riviera, and in particular Capri Island. I must say, having a private beach was one of my favorite aspects of the hotel.

Prefer the pool? You can also enjoy the day relaxing on the chic loungers by the pool and enjoying their chill music. Right next to the swimming pool are the bar and restaurant; creative fusion gastronomy. There is a jacuzzi and beautiful sun deck area as well. For those who want to stay in shape, there is a small but very nice gym. You can also enjoy one of their yoga classes, and then treat yourself to a massage at the hotel spa (which is exactly what we did after a full day at the beach).

Our first day in Mykonos was spent lounging by the sea at the hotel’s private beach. Then around 5 pm, we headed up to the Petasos Beach Resort & SPA where we had booked a double massage treatment. This deep relaxation was very much needed after our early wake-up call.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The wellness & SPA treatments

The Aqua Marine Spa was located just beneath our hotel suite, so we headed down the stairs into the cool SPA. There we were greeted by the lovely SPA manager, Dora, and made our selection of treatments. The Petasos Beach Resort and Spa offers revitalizing and thalasso-therapy treatments, as well as honeymoon packages.

I opted for a full-body, deep relaxation and Stephanie chose a combined massage. We were both incredibly relaxed after the treatment and slowly went up to our room to get ready for the iconic Myconian evening sunset.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The Hotel Rooms

The luxurious Petasos Beach is like a small village. Lined with the iconic white-washed Myconian buildings, set against the most breathtaking views of the seaside. This architecture is echoed throughout the Cyclades islands, the shapes and colors are inspired by the blue Mediterranean sea and white clouds.

The hotel rooms are decorated in a minimal-chic, modern manner. All of the accommodation options are equipped with Wi-Fi internet access. Deluxe and superior rooms also feature a spa bath and a shower which doubles up as a steam cabin.

The spacious rooms and suites, also come with Jacuzzi options and private outdoor pools in the suites with incredibly beautiful, grand panoramic views. I love the transparent division between the bath and my room. You can sit in your bubble bath and look over the beautiful blue sea in the distance. Of course, it also has blinds which you can shut, for those who want more privacy. Needless to say that I was delighted that they had a little espresso machine in the room, so I could enjoy a quick pick-me-up coffee when needed. Our ensuite room included a beautiful blue and white balcony which overlooked the mega yachts dotted along the coastline. As well as a huge wardrobe which I immediately filled with my many bikinis, beach cover-ups, new “Livia” Thalie Paris bag in Tanzanite Blue and Greek Island attire. I loved that the room had a big, full-sized mirror for us, fashion bloggers, to make sure our outfits were on point. There was also a pretty seating area near the terrace, complete with a white sofa and armchairs for when we wanted to lounge around. With the heat, we also took full advantage of the room’s air conditioning, which could be easily adjusted at all times.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: The Breakfast Buffet & Menu

The Petasos Beach Resort and Spa offers an experience at any time and goes far beyond a simple hotel where you rest and relax. There are 2 restaurants within the premises of the Resort, with a great view of the Aegean sea. Each day, we started with a 45-minute session at the hotel gym before heading to their open-air restaurant. I must say, I really enjoyed the options available at the breakfast buffet. I had never seen so many dietary-restricted-friendly options! Including alternative kinds of milk such as soy, coconut, and almond. They also had an incredible array of nut butter, which I had no idea even existed and so I was very curious to try them. The full selection of nut butters included classics like almond and peanut, but there was also cashew, hazel, pumpkin, tahini, and sunflower seed! Each day, I also ordered my favorite almond milk cappuccino for breakfast. And each morning our table was full of fresh fruit, eggs, oatmeal, gluten-free bread, juices, and of course, the unique creamy Greek yogurt with walnuts and honey.

Petasos Beach Resort & Spa: Final Thoughts

It’s not difficult to fall in love with such a dreamy hotel located in beautiful Mykonos. This said my favorite aspects of the hotel were:

  • The incredible Breakfast
  • Private Beach
  • Hotel Spa & personalized treatments
  • Friendly and super helpful Hotel Staff
  • The beautiful Myconian architecture and design of the hotel

If you are looking for a hotel to book in Mykonos, Petasos Beach Resort & Spa is perfect for:

  • Jet-setters and high flyers
  • Foodies
  • A romantic couples getaway
  • Families
  • Friend groups who loves luxury and creature comforts
  • Whilst the Petasos villas are ideal for longer stays as they include a kitchen, private pool, and other facilities
  • And their hotel suites offer all you could want for a weeklong vacation

I hope that you enjoyed my review of this wonderful hotel in Mykonos. Please let me know in the comments if you would also like to visit this place. For more travel articles and hotel reviews please click here.

A huge thanks to everyone at the Petasos Beach Resort & Spa for making our stay so wonderful.

LA DOLCE VITA AT 2PINICAPRI A beautiful boutique hotel in the heart of Anacapri

Situated in the picturesque and historic landmark of Anacapri, 2 Pini hotel is a charming, family run boutique hotel which I was so lucky enough to discover earlier this month.

ABOUT CAPRI – A LUXURY HOLIDAY RESORT

I was so happy to take advantage of the last rays of sunshine in Italy earlier this month and travel to the beautiful island of Capri for the first time. The elitist fame of this beautiful island is intermeshed with the 1950s. Known as a haven for jet-setting stars and celebrities.

Capri Island is situated along the Amalfi Coast in Italy and is one of the most beautiful jet-set destinations I’ve ever been to. A hotspot for celebrities, fashionistas, and the “elite”. Capri has been the setting for countless Hollywood films in the 50s and 60s. Indeed there still has a sort of vintage allure to the island. Fashion and luxury is a big part of Capri. Indeed, many fashion designers create special, capsule collections that are exclusively available in their Capri boutiques (including Louis Vuitton, Christian Dior, Hermès, Versace and Prada).

It is also home to the Annual Luisa Via Roma Gala, which took place in early August. In fact, the first thing I spotted when we arrived at the beautiful 2 Pini Residence which would be our home for the next few days, was a magazine with the Luisa Via Roma in Capri: Charity Event & Summer Party 2021. It really is one of THE main events of the year on the island. Indeed luxury and fashion design was definitely

Indeed, when one hears of Capri, instantly images of glamorous women on Vespas, lemon trees, blue-tiled stones, and stretches of the azure blue sea come to mind. This cliché is not for off from reality. The coastline, the colorful buildings, and the pastel-colored sunsets that we enjoyed during our stay were all real and simply spectacular. It really was an oasis of Italian glamour, secretly hidden away, steeped in traditional values, and rich with heritage.

THE ARRIVAL AT 2PINICAPRI

I visited this beautiful Italian island along with my friend and fellow travel blogger Bella in early September. We arrived midday on the island and had the pleasure of staying in the most picturesque hotel situated just West of Capri, called 2 Pini Residences. This area is called Anacapri and is located a little higher up on the island. Indeed this area has some of the finest gardens in all of Italy.

It was a truly wonderful gem tucked away and super close to the Piazza Vittoria, as well as being close to the shops and local restaurants of Anacapri. What was also amazing was that in terms of Covid-19, the hotel took all the necessary precautions and even had a special machine that completely disinfected our luggage before they were brought into our room. I found this super convenient and reassuring especially as we had taken a plane, taxi, and boat, and another taxi to arrive! I was also impressed with the warm welcome with which we were met.

ABOUT 2PINICAPRI HOTEL

Originally founded by Giuseppe (don Peppino) and his Swiss wife, today it is run by their grandchildren: the two wonderful brothers Augusto and Guido.

Since 1950, it is a family-run boutique hotel, that is perfect for a calm, scenic stay on the iconic Italian island. In fact, one of the aspects I adored about Capri, is that many of the businesses were family-owned and passed on for generations.

This was true for the boutique hotel: The 2 Pini Residence Hotel whose legacy begins with Giuseppe Ferraro. He owned a pasticceria in the Piazza Vittoria, and it was later renamed Bar Due Pini. In 1999 along with his Swiss wife Elisabeth and daughter Gulia they transformed the vineyards into what is today known as 2 Pini Residence. Today the boutique hotel is run by their grandchildren Guido and Augusto, who both kindly hosted us. They were so hospitable and helpful throughout our stay, they even arranged a private boat trip for us around the island which was one of my favorite parts of the trip.

Another aspect I loved about Capri, and which I find so rare today, is that so many products on the island are actually locally sourced. It was wonderful for example to see the fresh lemons displayed at the reception when we arrived. They had been freshly picked from the lemon garden that lined the property. I loved that 2 Pini Residence was surrounded by nature, growing their own lemons, and had the most stunning roses that lined the entrance greeting guests. The 2 Pini Residence gardens also had a terrace-solarium and an outdoor hydromassage pool.

ABOUT THE 2PINICAPRI ROOM

We stayed in a spacious and comfortable apartment. Fully equipped with all comforts, including a kitchenette, bathroom, and a beautiful terrace covered in flowers. The rooms were very spacious, furnished in a minimal style. Whilst the bathroom was fully stocked with complimentary toiletries from the local brand Cartusia.

Our private terrace had a view of the sea and from which I witnessed some of the most spectacular sunsets. This is also where we had our first breakfast in Capri the very next morning. It was a delightful dolce vita moment. The table was set with fresh roses from their garden. We sipped freshly brewed coffee and soaked up the sunshine before heading into town.

Alternatively, you can also enjoy a traditional Mediterranean breakfast in the morning which was served in the adjacent bar in the main square of Anacapri.

2PINICAPRI CONCIERGE SERVICES

We were truly lucky during our stay as our hosts were true locals and knew the island through and through. What is more, they offered fantastic services, including:

A Private Boat Tour of Capri

2 Pini arranged for us a private boat tour of Capri with a skipper and we had a truly unforgettable day in the glittering waters of Capri. We set off from Marina Grande, the main port, and went all around the island. During the boat tour we got all the inside information from our super-friendly guide for the day Salvatore.

The Delicious Food from the Restaurant Due Pini Capri

Although the hotel does not have a restaurant on-site, they have a partnership with the Restaurant Due Pini Capri. Located in the center of Anacapri, it has a splendid terrace that overlooks the main square and the food is absolutely divine.

Overall, it was a truly wonderful experience and I was so thankful to be able to discover Italy a little more this year.
