A Sneak Peek at Geneva Auction Week with Antiquorum

IMPORTANT MODERN & VINTAGE TIMEPIECES. AUCTION NOVEMBER 6 & 7, 2021 | HOTEL BEAU-RIVAGE | GENEVA

Geneva is the capital of watch auctions and the biggest auction houses including Antiquorum, Christie’s, Phillips and Sotheby’s are all poised for the upcoming watch biddings which will start on November 4, 2021. It begins at the Theater du Leman where the industry’s biggest awards event, Grand Prix d’Horologerie de Genève (GPHG) goes live. What’s more, this year marks the 20th anniversary of the GPHG (The ‘Oscars’ Of The Watch World in the watch industry).

Watch lovers and serious collectors are at the height of their happiness, as we have entered one of the most exciting 6 weeks of in-person events, auctions, horological forums and shows that are taking place in New York, Geneva and Dubai.

I was invited in mid-October 2021 by the auction house Antiquorum to discover the delightful collection of pieces that will be part of their upcoming Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces Auction that will be held on November 6 and 7. It will take place at the prestigious and luxurious Hotel Beau Rivage. Antiquorum is the world’s premiere auction house of modern and vintage timepieces and it was a true pleasure to discover the beautiful collection for the upcoming auction.

Antiquorum’s Important Modern & Vintage Timepieces Auction

Among the rare wristwatches in the auction, there will be a selection of vintage Patek Philippes, including three perpetual calendar chronographs.

My Personal Favourite: Patek Philippe

Indeed the Reference 1518 which is Patek Philippe’s original perpetual calendar chronograph watch will be up for bidding and this is the piece that stole my heart. Made of yellow gold with manual winding, it was my personal favorite. I loved the bracelet, it’s so unique and the craftsmanship was spectacular. Although traditionally for men, I love a gold wristwatch for women too as it almost accentuates one’s wrists.

Fun fact: this particular Patek is a watch that was produced in just 281 examples between 1941 and 1954. So it truly is a rare Patek Philippe find.

Wristwatches For Women

For the ladies, there will be some truly spectacular pieces ranging from Vacheron Constantin to Cartier and of course Patek Philippe.

Patek Philippe Reference 5298

The women’s pieces include a truly unique Patek Philippe Reference 5298 with a brown satin dial and diamond bezel. It is a very fine and extremely rare piece. This self-winding Patek Philippe watch with a diamond bezel, baguette and diamond indexes is the true essence of luxury in horlogerie. Indeed, there is a diamond set on the side of the bezel which is a signature of Patek Philippe that indicates that the bezel is made of platinum.

Fun fact: While most Reference 5298s come with a black dial, very few examples were fitted with the satin brown dial, making this piece very rare.

Crash de Cartier

There will also be the Crash by Cartier at the upcoming Antiquorum auction. This is an iconic model sought after by watch collectors, but what is the story behind this particular design?

The story goes that the Crash by Cartier design was inspired from when a client of Cartier who brought in his damaged watch after a car crash in 1967. The manner in which the watch was distorted inspired the jeweler Jean-Jacques Cartier to create the first-ever made asymmetric case of the watch. This manual wind, 18k yellow gold, and diamond wristwatch is a rare beauty.

Vacheron Constantin Set of Kalla Genève

Possibility the most impressive pieces, these two manual wind, 18k white gold watches from Vacheron Constantin are set with 258 diamonds. Circa 1995, Reference 33546 is a real show stopper.

If you are a watch fan, in addition to these events, auctions and shows, there will also be smaller watch-related exhibits planned around the world.

Purple Rain at Paris Fashion Week SS22 Street Style

PARIS FASHION WEEK Started the 28th of September and came to a close today, the 6th of October 2021. Despite the ever-present rain during our stay in Paris, it was a magical time. Bringing back wonderful memories of when I was a fashion illustration student at Parsons Paris and would run around the beautiful city and get endlessly inspired by the beauty of it. Paris Fashion Week (PFW) is one of the most important fashion events of the year when official membres of the Fédération de la Haute Couture et de la Mode (FHCM) show their new designs. It is the final destination of fashion month for buyers, fashion bloggers and the press.

What’s so exciting about Paris Fashion Week is the prestige of the fashion shows and designer brands showing their new collections. For the brands that were born in the city of lights such as Dior, Saint Laurent, Lanvin, Hermès, Givenchy and Chanel it really is an amazing moment. The fashion houses all have such fascinating and rich heritage that is deeply rooted in Paris, their creations are real works of art and impact the whole fashion industry. These collections will set the trends and the tone for Summer Spring 2022.

The past nine days clearly demonstrated how the fashion industry is now embracing technology. Fashion Weeks are back with a bang one might say, adapting to the post-pandemic era. Although many key designers remained digital during this particular fashion season, most will be back with full-blown fashion shows by the next one.

So here we go with this look that I wore during Paris Fashion Week. I played with the contrast of modern and vintage. Bold chic statement and rock grunge. Pairing a bright purple vintage Albert Nipon tailored blazer with grey stonewashed jeans and my tiny Le Chiquito handbag from Jacquemus. Whilst my dear friend Bella paired a canary yellow Chanel tweed coat with dark rinse denim.

This is actually a very “Parisian” fashion style. Unexpected twists on traditional combinations such as a beautifully tailored blazer combined with a pair of relaxed jeans. I remember I initially learned about these style tips from Ines de La Fressage’s book, “La Parisienne” (“Parisian Chic” in English). The author of the book (Ines de la Fressange) is a fashion icon and symbol of Parisian style. Indeed she was the late Karl Lagerfeld‘s muse and she is chosen as the ambassador for the House of Chanel and is the first model to sign an exclusive contract with a luxury brand. So if you are a fan of Chanel and the effortlessly chic look that Parisian girls all intuitively have, I definitely recommend picking up that book!

3 things you didn’t know about Harry Winston

Known as the “King of Diamonds” and the Jeweler to the Stars”, Harry Winston is one of the most eminent jewelry designers of the 20th century. He was the first to leverage celebrity status, draping draped actress Jennifer Jones in mega diamonds for the 1943 Academy awards. Today this is common practice for the red carpet, but at the time it was a revolutionary marketing technique. So today I wanted to share with you 3 little known facts about Harry Winston:

  1. Harry Winston was very discreet. Despite decking heads of state, royal dignitaries and movie stars in his dazzling creations, the man himself was very private. He even had a tiny concealed private elevator in his office so he and his VIP clients could discreetly slip in and out without being noticed.
  2. Indeed there was actually an ironclad clause in his business insurance policy that forbade him from showing his face publicly. Harry Winston was only photographed in the shadows or from a distance. Very few people ever even saw his face until his portrait appeared in his 1978 New York Timed obituary.
  3. Did you know that The Hope Diamond (which is one of the top 5 most expensive diamond in the world) was purchased by Harry Winston in 1949. The stone is rumored to be cursed due to the misfortune and tragedy that many of its previous owners experienced. The Hope diamond is believed to have been discovered in India in the 1600s. It is a 45.52 carat Fancy Dark Gray-Blue antique cushion cut diamond. The Hope Diamond is one of the most famous jewels in the world, with ownership records that go back almost four centuries. Its much-admired rare blue color and displays unusual luminescence because of the tiny impurities, due to trace amounts of boron atoms. After purchasing it, Mr Winston then donated it to the Smithsonian Institution. Winston never believed in any of the tales about the curse; and he donated the diamond with the hope that it would help the United States “establish a gem collection.”

The Location

San Antonio is a beautiful municipality on the North central coast of Ibiza. Ibiza is a famous Spanish island in the Mediterranean Sea. This area has a beautiful open bay, and the seafront promenade is lined with legendary sunset cafés and clubs including Mamba and Café Del Mar. Referred to as the Sunset Strip, it is the ideal place to enjoy a cocktail, listen to all the latest summer sounds and watch the sun slowly sink below the horizon. With my travel partner-in-crime Bella Zofia, we visited Ibiza earlier this month and stayed at the ever so lovely Wi-Ki-Woo Hotel.

About the Hotel

Nestled on the Sant Antoni Bay on the north west seaboard of the island, this boutique hotel has a fantastic view over the glittering, turquoise blue sea. Even the candy-colored hotel entrance is lined with pretty hanging flowers, making it a fashion blogger’s haven. Wi-Ki-Woo was opened in 2018 by businessman Tony Truman who also owns Ocean Beach Club.

In his words:

“I first came to Ibiza in the 1980s. It was the birth of Ibiza as a prestigious party destination and since then it has been my dream to open a boutique hotel on the island. W-Ki-Woo came about from my desire to create my own Club Tropicana’ bringing luxury and individuality to the San Antonio beach front. We offer affordable quality and a quirky mix of the old and the new Ibiza. I am very proud of what we have created.”

Tony Truman

What I loved most about this hotel is that literally, every corner was a pic op! It’s a real haven for Instagrammers and travel bloggers looking for the perfect pic op in a summery setting. This pink-themed hotel has thought about all the details so you’ll be sure to get just the right shot for social media. From the heart-shaped pool floats to giant ice-cream cones, flower walls to the pink motorcycles – the aesthetics are so on point. It counts British celebrities amongst its guests, including Kate Moss.

The interiors of the Wi-Ki-Woo hotel were designed by Stuart William Taylor and each corner of the hotel is incredibly photogenic. Fun pops of pastel pink and mint with accents of charcoal and bronze. The room we had was fully equipped with Egyptian cotton bedding, a Cloud 9 hairdryer and straightener as well as Cowshed beauty products. The whole hotel has an Art Deco meets Palm Springs aesthetic that looks beautiful both day and night.

The Food

Wi-Ki-Woo offers a truly delicious selection of brunch specials. Classics with a tropical twist, Bella and I loved the smashed avocado toast and tropical bowl best. Another delicious dish for those with a sweet tooth was their French toast with fresh mascarpone, fresh berries and chocolate sauce. Their almond milk cappuccino was my absolute favorite morning ritual.

PRO STYLE TIP: Take Two

Always bring along a spare swim piece with you if you are headed for a full day of sun fun and swimming. Indeed one thing I love doing when I’m at the pool or by the beach for a full day is to always pack at least 2 to 3 swimsuits with me. This is really good in terms of comfort as you know you have backups and won’t have to leave in a wet suit. Indeed in terms of hygiene it’s actually way better, because it is actually not great for your body to stay in a swimsuit once it’s wet. I always swap up for the dry one once I’ve gone swimming. So having an extra one is always helpful.

5 things you didn’t know about Longchamp Le Pliage

Hailed for its innovative approach the leather goods, Longchamp is a French luxury company, founded in Paris in 1948 by Jean Cassegrain. Intrinsically inspired by the allure of the Parisian woman who is always on the go, their designs are practical and polished. So here are 5 fashion facts about this iconic handbag:

  1. The first Le Pliage bag was created by the son of Longchamp’s founder, Philippe Cassegrain. Its design was inspired by the Japanese art of origami, which Philippe had learnt about when travelling. Indeed the word “Pliage” means fold in French. The concept of the bag is that when you are not using it, you can easily fold it up and store it. I personally like to always slide one in my suitcase in case I buy anything on my trip and can’t fit it into my luggage. This way I have a storage back up. Made of durable nylon with strong leather straps, it weighs nothing but can fit so much inside – so it really is ideal for travelling.
  2. First launched in 1993 by Phillipe Cassegrain and and Isabelle Guyon. It would take another 3 years for the first Le Pliage collection to become a fashion hit according to Philippe Cassegrain. Today this light foldaway bag that has since become an iconic bag worldwide. Today, 10 Le Pliage bags are sold every minute worldwide.
  3. In France, mothers often give their daughters a Longchamp bag as a coming-of-age gift when their daughters turn 15. Indeed, that was in fact the age that I got my first Longchamp Pliage in navy blue, and yes it was a gift from my mother! It was my school bag all throughout my teen years.
  4. Le Pliage tote has been reimagined in over 150 different colours and prints. Collaborations include Jeremy Scott, Tracey Emin, Clo’e Floriat, Nendo, Pokémon, and most recently Filet France which I am wearing here.
  5. Did you know that you can now also personalise your own Le Pliage bag from the model to the colour, flap and handles, snap closure, shoulder strap and right down to the lining color? You can also get your Longchamp items monogrammed free of charge in their stores. I love doing this for gifts to add a truly personal touch to the bag.

So there you have it, 5 Fashion facts about the iconic Longchamp handbag that has become a staple wardrobe must-have.
