Beauty Product Spotlight: February 2021

The month of February is synonymous with Valentine’s Day. So, just in time for this 2021 Valentine’s Day, I wanted to share with you my favorite lotions and potions that I have become recently enamored by.

MY LOVE FOR LIPSTICK

One thing I like to do especially during the gray, cold winter days is to add a little color to my pout. As a huge makeup fan, I have an extensive collection of various shades of lipsticks. So I picked out my 8 favorite lipstick shades that I like to wear to beat those winter blues.

THE NUDE ATTITUDE

One of my all time favorite lipsticks is the MAC Matte Lipstick in Velvet Teddy. A gorgeous, creamy matte lipstick that has a very high color payoff. It has the perfect matte formulation and what is more the shade itself is like a magical color that suits almost every skin tone. If you prefer a more 60s, sex-kitten look then a great lipstick to try is the MAC Cremesheen lipstick in Shy Girl. A warm-toned peach with a creamy, pearl finish, it is in fact a color often worn by the oh-so-iconic Angelina Jolie.

Indeed, if you have a penchant for nude lipstick shades but want more of a sheer finish I love CHANEL ROUGE COCO FLASH lip shine in Boy 54. It has a luscious glossy effect. It has a super hydrating formulation, the nude shade is extremely flattering, naturally enhancing your lips. It acts almost like a reminder to other makeup products of just what cosmetics should do: enhance your natural beauty and never mask it.

CORAL CRUSH

For a playful pop of color that is not quite as bold as a red lip nor as conventional as a classic nude, coral is a good alternative. I love the Cremesheen MAC lipstick in Crosswires as it has a great color payoff. The coral is almost a bit smoked so to say with a slight pearl finish, which creates an overall expensive effect. I love it and always get tons of compliments when I wear this shade.

RED ALERT

A cool contemporary red lipstick is a great makeup look to rock on Valentine’s Day. My go-to red lip is actually this CHANEL ROUGE ALLURE in Passion 14. The packaging of this particular product is fabulous and ever so fun to use, with a click system and an ultra-luxurious black cover – this Chanel lipstick could be a prop from a 007 spy movie. The color itself is ultra-pigmented with a slightly blue undertone (which by the way makes your teeth look a tad whiter). It is hands down one of the most flattering red lipsticks I own.

THINK PINK

For a flirty, romantic makeup look, opt for a rose pink lip look. This looks great with a feminine, black kitten flick liner, and very long, fluttery lashes. My favorite pinks include MAC Satin Lipstick in Brave, Gucci’s Pigment Rich Lipstick in Magnolia Pink, and MAC Patentpolish Lip Pencil in Clever.

HAIRCARE HEROS

If the idea of applying oil to your hair (especially if it is fine) fills you with dread, then Gisou’s iconic Honey Infused Hair Oil is a must-try. Created by the Instagram Star and Macro Influencer Negin Mirsalehi, whose own hair will give you hair goals with just one click on her Instagram account. So it is only fitting that she launched her own haircare brand. Gisou’s products are all enriched with natural ingredients including honey which is sustainably sourced from the Mirsalehi Bees in the Netherlands. The Gisou Hair Oil adds shine without weighing your hair down, this lightweight silky formulation can be used as a pre-treatment after washing your hair or post-blowdry and works on all hair types. I also love how luxurious the packing is for this hair oil. It looks so aesthetic in my bathroom and so far I am pleased with the results.

When you want to hit snooze and snuggle under the covers for a couple more minutes in the morning, dry shampoo is the answer to all your beauty prayers. Give your hair a little boost with Authentic Beauty Concept’s Dry Shampoo. It is a lightweight texturizing dry shampoo that is perfect to refresh your hair between washes. The January Beauty Edit

The glacial cold and snow outside combined with the third national lockdown in Switzerland is all the more reason to focus on your self-care routine. With Christmas over, I wanted to share with you my favorite monthly beauty goodies…

First up is Fullord’s “Carré de Soie” perfume. It is such a luxurious and expensive smell that I was hooked the second I smelt it. I almost wanted to keep it a secret and not share this scent with you – it’s just that good! It is my current obsession and I love it so much. It is an exclusive scent that was developed by the Firmenich Fragrance House for Fullord. Captivating and with a slight powdery note to it, I cannot tell you how pleased I am every time I spritz it on. It stays all day, so the longevity is excellent. Overall one of my favorite beauty buys.

Next is actually a brand I discovered at Harvey Nichols in my University years. It is a Danish skincare brand called Ole Henriksen. As you know Scandinavian women are pretty much flawless with or without makeup so I really trust this whole nation when it comes to cosmetics (trust me, I lived with two stunning Norwegian girls when I was a student and my gosh their skin was just flawless). Almost 8 years ago now I tried the Truth Serum. It is to this day the most divinely delicious smelling serums I have tried. Indeed this is one of the brand’s strong points: they strive to create a sensory experience with each of their products. So I was thrilled when Sephora launched Ole Henriksen in Switzerland. I was gifted the most wonderful skincare set including their 3 bestsellers:

C-Rush™ Brightening Gel Crème. This cream is exactly what you need during the winter cold. It has the coolest gel-cream texture. Pick me up packed with vitamin C. It smells insanely fresh and luxurious. You really feel like you are giving your skin some much-needed TLC.
Glow2OH™ Dark Spot Toner. This tonner is packed with powerful AHAs (glycolic and lactic acids) and reduces fine lines and dark spots.
PHAT Glow Facial™. This is the perfect product for your self-care Sundays. It is Ole Henriksen’s first one-step at-home facial filled with PHAs. Anti-aging, it instantly exfoliates and illuminates your skin. What’s more, the texture is very cool. A pink terracotta cream which when applied and massaged into your skin turns white.

Next, I want to share with you my favorite nail care product. With the cold weather and all the hand sanitizer I have been using, my hands and nails are pretty dry. So I have been doing a nail cure with Essie’s Help Me Grow. It is a 5-day nail strengthening polish which is great if you want to give your natural nails a fighting chance to grow. I already see huge improvements within the two weeks of using it and would strongly recommend it for anyone who’s looking to do a nail detox.

Now on to some fun and glitter! I am a huge fan of Too Faced. Their packaging is always on point and every year they launch the best Limited Edition Christmas Collections. This said, my current favorite palette is actually a classic and Switzerland Sephora Bestseller. It is the Too Faced Born This Way palette and it was actually a Christmas gift. I was so happy when I got it, I love Too Faced as I find the eyeshadow quality and pigment payoff so amazing. This particular palette is truly versatile yet totally wearable. It has a range of neutral shades each time featuring a sparkling and matte version. I have already been able to create some super fun looks with this Too Faced palette. On New Year’s Eve, I did a holographic glitter-eye and I also created the most sumptuous copper cat-eye which lasted all day. It’s great for all skin tones and even comes with a helpful makeup tutorial depending on your complexion. Overall it is just is such a great palette to have, especially for on-the-go as it’s super practical and portable.

Last but not least I want to share my favorite lipsticks. Revlon’s new Super Lustrous Glass Shine Lipsticks. They launched in late 2020 and I received three gorgeous shades. The texture of them is superb, the finish is super shiny “glass-like” and the colors are gorgeous. I love the formulation as they are very moisturizing lipsticks made with hyaluronic acid, aloe, and rose quartz. This is great as they protect against chapped lips in the cold months. They also smell super delicious. My absolute favorite shade is Sparkling Honey, a soft, golden nude shade.

My favorite look is Pillow Talk. It is such an iconic look from Charlotte Tilbury. It is universally-flattering and dreamy. Fresh, pink and chic. I first discovered Charlotte Tilbury in Selfridges London when I was browsing the beauty section. I decided to pick two of the bestselling products: the Charlotte Tilbury Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk and Charlotte‘s Magic Cream.

The Lip Cheat in Pillow Talk is quite litterally the best of the best. Having faithfully used Mac‘s Spice for many years (a cult 90‘s backstage favorite used religiously on set by the OG supermodels, Naomi Campbell and Kate Moss) I didn’t believe there could be a better one out there. Pillow Talk glides on your lips and instantly gives the illusion of a fuller pout. I love the shade so much, it’s so effortless. It is a cult makeup shade and does exactly what great makeup products should do: enhance your natural beauty. The color is perfectly pink and has the most wonderful, velvety smooth finish. You can use it to create natural volume to the shape of your lips and by drawing a little over them. I have been carrying the Charlotte Tilbury Pillow Talk Lip Cheat in my handbag at all times since discovering it 4 years ago. Although I have heard some glowing reviews on another Charlotte Tilbury shade called Supersize Me, so I am very curious to compare the two shades.

Indeed, Pillow Talk’s success led the brand creating a whole range dedicated to this iconic Charlotte Tilbury shade that includes lipsticks, shimmering lip glosses, eyeshadow palettes, mascara and rosy blushes. I used to stock up on Charlotte Tilbury every time I was in London. Luckily now Charlotte Tilbury is now available in Switzerland via Zalando Beauty. I was so happy when I heard this! For the launch, Zalando Beauty sent me the most beautiful discovery kit that included all Charlotte Tilbury’s hero products.

I was so happy to discover the products which included the iconic Pillow Talk blush, lipstick and beautiful eyeshadow palette. Not to mention Charlotte’s Miracle Serum and Moisturizer as well as her Liquid Liner and bestselling Filmstar Bronze and Glow.

So, if you are looking for some last minute gift ideas, look no further: Charlotte Tilbury’s makeup is a great solution. Beautifully packaged and available in the most sumptuous shades, Charlotte Tilbury is one of the most luxurious makeup brands I know and will definitely make for a festive addition under the Christmas tree.

The November Beauty Edit

Welcome to my monthly beauty essentials edit, which is where I am going to share with you a list of all the products I have been loving at the moment.

With the winter chills creeping in and many of us around the world in semi-lockdown, I wanted to focus on skincare and self care.

Starting with eyes, I have been using The Ordinary (which is finally available in Switzerland at Douglas) Caffeine Solution 5% and Teoxane’s R[II] Eyes together. I have been loving this combination and applied it religiously every night. The R[II] Eyes combines the Teoxane’s anti-aging complex RHA™ Technology with active ingredients that help against anti-aging and anti-puffiness. Whilst The Ordinary Caffeine Solution 5% is one of their hero products. This particular formula contains an extremely high concentration of caffeine, which really helps stimulate microcirculation, helps to brighten and depuff the skin’s appearance.

In terms of my face, I have been cleansing with my Foreo Luna Mini 3 and Micro-Foam Cleanser, then applying Chanel’s Lotion Confort as a toner. After which, I have been applying two pumps of Teoxane’s RHA Serum and their Advanced Filler moisturizer.

On my lips I cannot say how much I have been loving Teoxane’s [3D] Lip balm. I am a huge fan of the metal applicator and formula. It’s easy to apply and packed with nutritive ingredients, leaving your lips feeling super nourished and hydrated.

Last but not least, with all the hand sanitizer I have been using, I have been religiously applying lots of hand cream to ensure my hands don’t get dry. The one I have been using is Chanel’s La Crème Main. The formula is non greasy and hydrating. What’s more it has one of the most aesthetic packagings I have ever seen. It’s a true cult product amongst fashion and beauty addicts.

Glam Goodies of October

As the month draws to a close, I wanted to share my absolute favorite finds from this month including skincare, beauty and fragrance.

This year the seasons shifted quite suddenly here in Geneva. With the drastic drop in temperature, skincare takes on another level of importance. So I have been using the Valmont Prime Renewing Pack Mask. I was pleasantly surprised by just how well it works! It’s truly remarkable especially as my skin gets more sensitive with the cold. This Valmont mask treats signs of fatigue, tightens pores and tones your skin. What’s more there are three different ways you can use it:

1. As quick pick-me-up, by applying it as a 20-minute mask on clean skin.

2. You can also massage it into the skin every morning for 3 minutes.

3. For a more intense treatment when you have really tired skin, you can leave it on to work all night long.

In the mornings, I have also been using the Dior Forever & Ever Primer. It’s a great makeup base that enhances foundation application and improves hold. This is especially needed with all the mask wearing…I also switched up my foundation for something a bit lighter, opting for Dior’s Forever Extreme Control powder instead of a liquid formula. Applying a very fine layer over the entire face in the morning after using Dior‘s Forever Skin Correct concealer around my nose and under my eyes.

I’ve also been obsessed with the Lush highlighter “Feeling Young” this month. It’s got an almost holographic finish to it. I love applying it onto the high points of my face for a dewy, fresh finish.

My next goodie is actually a perfume, this year has not been kind on my perfume collection. I have broken over 5 bottles by accident including my beloved Tom Ford Black Orchid. So with this in mind I have been trying to be extra careful with my latest perfume: Un Jardin sur le Toît by Hermès. It is the fourth installment in the Les Jardins series launched in 2011. The collection has expanded from the original four scents and most recently, this summer 2020, launched Un Jardin sur la Lagune. For me, Un Jardin sur le Toît is a fresh scent takes me back to late evenings in Pairs when I studied art there. Interestingly, the scent itself is inspired by the luxurious secret garden located on the rooftop of Hermès’ headquarters building at 24 Rue Faubourg Saint-Honore in Paris.

Another amazing gem I have been using this month is the Rouge Hermès lipstick. I have never had such a luxurious experience when purchasing a beauty product. When I got it, my initial idea was to make it my go to handbag lipstick. I selected a rose nude. It’s texture, as fine as it is rich, delivers vibrant, long-lasting color. Designed by Pierre Hardy, the packaging is so elegant and is actually refillable. The Rouge Hermès lipstick comes in its own protective canvas pouch and it’s own iconic little orange box. What is more the success of this initial beauty product launch has led Hermès to rollout a whole range. Needless to say, I am very excited!
